Fitting all my requirements into a single side extension! Help!
Comments (20)Hello Jodie, Most welcome, I hope you saw my extension visuals too which give you a range of ideas and I like the transparency and style of the frames which lend to a feeling of open space.... The day beds are really gr8 in a room where it needs to be versatile so gr8 minds!.. The cream daybed is from ikea.. if you mean the second whiteish one with bolsters.. Something similar can be found at Loaf.. I do really like the Ikea one though as it's woven which is very nice texturally and has a really good aesthetic. and the last one which is my other favourite.. .. I think it would be rather good to have a shower element and so if not the wet room idea, you can still have something fantastic as a shower enclosure if you choose the enclosure wisely. Also you may be able to incorporate the architecture of the space in that you may be able to add a screen or something if the size fits for a walk in or other enclosed shower with single screen.. With regard to the extension you have.. you may be able to adapt it architecturally but if you like the idea of more glass then it might be better to replace altogether but of course dependent on what you choose and decide on an architectural level with the plans etc.. Budget a consideration etc.. You could though take out the existing windows and replace them with doors or bifold or sliding panels.. The arches internally are quite easy to convert to a squared off finish ie where they are situated such as the windows and doorways.. : ))...See MoreI think I've given up - Living Room v Man
Comments (27)We may not share artistic values but we do share one good thing... love and our life together - he's simply your typical man who loves to lounge around even when covered in dirt! We may have completely different ideas for our home but he is a good egg :) Anyway I do believe we have found common ground... surprisingly he really likes my idea of using grey with bright colours. We have agreed that as long as I stop forcing him to endure flamingos or similar, he will put up with me buying vintage and completely unnecessary furniture. He's said I can do whatever I want with those awful armchairs... WIN! I think we are going with man friendly greys meets pops of colour/vintage. It's pay day next week and I simply can't wait any longer!! Having said that... some ideas for what style of vintage and arrangements will be wonderful! Here is the photo from my kitchen door - anything attached to the walls were already there from the previous residents and will be removed... such as the mirror which isn't in line with that hideous folding table and the strange religious wall in the corner.... plus the half finished wallpaper on the chimney breast lol. x...See MoreRedecorating Small Bedroom for Single Man in his 30s
Comments (11)I don’t think this is good Feng Shui but I’d go for mirrored wardrobes to make the room feel bigger and make sure storage is taken up to the ceiling. I’d also look for a storage bed that’s on legs as it will make the room feel visually a little larger than one sat straight on the floor. Not sure if this is your thing but taking influence from the photos and alto saxophone I’d go for something with influences from the jazz era (or nearly!). A tufted bed would be great and will make a statement. If in budget I’d look for taller bedside tables (height of mattress, this is from Rockett St George as are the lights) and taller lamps, ideally when sat up the base of the lamp shade should be level with your chin). I’d look at a muted emerald green feature wall and add texture and pattern with warm neutral colours and a faux fur throw, pink would also look good but you may not be keen (!) or a deep teal/petrol blue. Maybe a brass starburst or molecular light over the bed as you can afford to hang it lower. A palm print blind could work and would also add a plant for the bedside table...See Moreopen plan design novice in need of help
Comments (14)thanks folks, very sensible advices.. Sally: in an ideal world we would have lived in first before getting the work done but with a young child, work involving crazy hours etc it will be just a bit onerous to move out again or manage to live with all the construction work going on. I agree with all of you that perhaps utilising the existing space and concentrating on the flow is a better idea rather than throwing ridiculous money at it especially if this isn't going to be our forever house. We have for now put the idea of a study on top of utility on hold. one of the plans we have been thinking is the below floor plan, this would involve very minimal work so quite cost effective. the utility room has a skylight (its in a recess so not too much sunlight but still not too bad) as well as a window into the passageway so light shouldn't be too much of a problem. the flip side is that kitchen area will be only 11ft wide and we will take some space from the garage (original size is 18'x14' ). the benefits are better sitting area, entrance to sitting area without going through the messy kitchen parts and separate entrance to kitchen from hallway so not having to walk the whole way around to dining room for those formal dinners.. What are your thoughts would this work? thanks Abhi...See More- 7 years ago
