We solved this problem with a Phillips lamp. It has a very low profile, energy saving, etc. It's a great lamp, good light for a dining area, perfect for our low ceilings and doesn't impede the view through to the garden. Just did a quick browse to find the exact name (below) and found that Phillips have a number of low profile pendants to choose from. You need to ensure you have sufficient seating space so that’s for arm movement and also knee movement. The units need to be strong enough for the quartz to be resting on them.
