It depends on how much work you want to do. Perhaps a different colour paint on the wall behind the toilet and artwork on the wall opposite the window.

Shelving will add unnecessary clutter as you already have the window cill acting as a shelf for decorative objects.

Is that a cabinet on the wall or something which has been boxed in? It's hard to tell.

You have a nice base to work with, but are missing some finishing touches to give this space some character. We agree with Colourhappy, a dark wall with fitted wooden shelves or cabinet would look great! Just make sure they run from one wall to another, to make the space look wider.

I agree with colour happy and Design Angels bathrooms and some co-ordinating towels for the heated towel rail would both disguise and it and co-ordinate with the dark wall.

We have a very small downstairs cloakroom and we've tiled half way up the wall all round in very large porcelain tiles in a pale cream and then painted the rest a very deep, blood red. So I think you could be a bit adventurous with paint and if you don't like it, you can always repaint. You have the benefit of a window, so it's not a pokey dark room.

You could push the boat out and look at stunning wallpaper, like the Koi paper by Osborne and Little. I think a little loo is just the place to go bold.

You could have shelves across the back in place of the cupboard, but in my experience, the towels and loo roll, make a lot of fluff in such a confined space and I think you'd be forever dusting or wiping the down.

i would also agree it depends on how much work you wanted to put in. A feature wall behind the w/c would look great or half height tiling and a bold colour above. shelves are great for storage and even a concealed cistern may work to give you a shelf.

I've been looking to add some character in our downstairs toilet too and have cone across some great ideas on here. Depending on budget, paint and a nice mirror where the cupboard is would add a lot to the space. Good luck with your redesign!
