Help furnishing & decorating bathroom

Hi
I would be very grateful if I could have some advice/ideas to help me decorate my bathroom, please. It has recently been tiled and painted.
I was thinking to place a cabinet above the toilet, but not sure if with or without mirror and what colour (wjite, oak,...). If without mirror, I could place the mirror in the picture attached on the other side of the window and complement it with brass toilet roll holder and brass towel hooks - would this go well with chrome taps and chrome radiator?
Open to any suggestions, TIA.

Are you considering a cabinet for storage? Do you have any at all in there? Is there a reason why you didn’t have some storage underneath the basin? You could still have had space beside the plumbing.

Based on the fact that it’s a modern bathroom I would just have a mirror on the wall. I tend to associate cabinets with the 60s.

Toilet roll holder and towel hooks I’d stick with chrome.

It appears that you have no other storage in the bathroom? If that is so then I would add a mirrored wall cabinet either above the loo as you suggest, or on the adjacent wall next to the rad. I love the round one below, but it doesn’t seem to have much storage space. A couple of wooden shelves would look lovely for spare towels and a nice trailing plant on whatever bare wall you have left. I think a wooden cabinet would look nice with the wall colour. As to mixing metals, it’s personal taste, I don’t mind it and brass is rather lovely.

Hi. Use white and/or beige. This will tie in the paintwork and sink and vanity. Don't try and match that lighter grey in some of the tiles. I would suggest roman blinds or plantation shutters that fit into the window casing rather than curtains. Full curtains will cover up the radiator/towel rail and probably get wet all the time from the bath/shower and half curtains are icky. Your look is very clean and streamlined and blinds would suit it much better. Good luck!

Hello Ilanarobinson514, I like the sound of some colour.. There are also some really fabulous wallpapers to consider... . Are there any specific features you have in the new place?... Will put a few images of things you might like to get the ideas going.... I love a four poster and have found one that's a nod to the oriental - it seems to be a theme and with the paper it works more than a sort of regency opulence which can be rather over the top.. The wallpaper is a dark charcoal and gold... so it would work really well on the headboard wall side of the bed... With a mirror on the wall behind if there is space in the centre of the bed frame. Or if you have a fireplace in the bedroom on the chimney breast... Team this with something like a lighter grey or charcoal and have a very chalky ceiling like Whitening by Little Greene...Colours for the other walls that would lift the paper are Scree, Portland Stone- I found a oriental looking wardrobe to continue the theme... but it can equally be plain and painted matt black (I have a french very plain one which is black and gr8! ..... The Elizabeth cabinet is something I really like that just has an element of the theatrical and because... She's rather a favourite of mine... (1) .... The velvet chair is also one of my favourites.... It's a beauty and could sit very nicely in a bedroom or a living room... gold cushion with origami pattern in silk.... For bed x 2 50x50, You may hate these and that's okay because I love them... but if you don't hate them....I have ideas about the bathroom..... : ))

I'd be tempted to go for a dark wooden seat to contrast with the pale decor and suite. The main thing is to make sure the seat is a perfect fit to the toilet pan so it looks really good. That could be easier said than done but an online search may help you find just what you're looking for. Argos has some brightly coloured seats in their "Colour Match" range but I'm not sure they are the right shape for your toilet. Might be worth a look though. Maybe you could accessorise towels etc to match! Angie

We have a very small downstairs cloakroom and we've tiled half way up the wall all round in very large porcelain tiles in a pale cream and then painted the rest a very deep, blood red. So I think you could be a bit adventurous with paint and if you don't like it, you can always repaint. You have the benefit of a window, so it's not a pokey dark room. You could push the boat out and look at stunning wallpaper, like the Koi paper by Osborne and Little. I think a little loo is just the place to go bold. You could have shelves across the back in place of the cupboard, but in my experience, the towels and loo roll, make a lot of fluff in such a confined space and I think you'd be forever dusting or wiping the down.

Thank you both for the comments.

This is a new built house, the only thing I could choose was the wall colour, I didn't even chose the tiles. There is no storage in the bathroom at the moment, so I need storage. I have old items, like the ones in the pictures, that I could place next to the bath on the left side, when entering the bathroom, but could buy something nicer and/or put the shelves suggested by Sonia. I like the round cabinet Sonia.

I like the mirror but not sure the dimensions will work. How tall is the window as I’ve tried guesstimating dimensions? I don’t know if I’d add shelves and then add sea grass baskets etc for storage along with a couple of decorative pieces. what’s distance from the bath to the architrave for storage? I think you can add a little brass for a mirror (I couldn’t add a chrome loo roll holder as it cleared the image!)

I think I’d add some form of shutter blind

The height of the window is 97cm and the distance from bath to architrave is 44.5cm.

I've just found another mirror, this one is oak with storage at the back - dimensions: H71xW26xD9.5cm.

I think this is the right size! I also tried a round and oval mirror. I wasn’t sure what you would think of the black “crittall” cabinet from habitat which is 40cm wide.

belly type baskets are good for loo rolls etc or even cleaning products with a towel draped over the top to hide bits. Maybe also add a towel hook to the left just for drying hands

(pink towel not obligatory but I can’t clear the background of anything white!)

Good luck! I’d just measure carefully and centre anything over the loo flush plate.

I did another option as thought the recess would take wallpaper well (ignore my papering efforts and obviously a better grey or white for the blinds). You could then have a mirrored wall cabinet by the door and then just a retractable one by the sink
