splashback and tiles?

Good day to all, I really need your expert help on this. We just had our extension done and put our simple kitchen in it. Now we are confused what color tiles to put. We originally wanted a long glass splashback on the wall but they are very expensive. So we just decided a glass splashback and tiles on the rest of the wall under the wall unit and around the extractor unit up to the ceiling. Hope you can help us with this. Thank you all in advance.

5 years agoI agree with Daisy, just put a splashback behind the hob as that’s the place that you can get mess from cooking. There are some beautiful ones about, and I particularly like the antique copper finish suggested by another Houzzer for a similar dilemma. Similar to this:-

Comments (28)Pity you have decided against glass in favour of tiles. We have just done our kitchen and I wanted an easy-to-clean surface for the splash back, so the rough surface of grouting around tiles, and also the indentations on some patterned tiles (which collect grease and grime) ruled them out for me! I went for glass, which the manufacturers matched exactly to the duck egg paint colour on the other walls (just gave them a product code of the paint), and although the initial outlay for the glass was expensive, the surface is so brilliant to keep clean and it looks fab as well. Comments (4)I think the kitchen will look great with the updates, the cabinets look good to me. I would however remove the 2 glass fronted ŵall cabinets. "Old hat" but why not grey for the cabinets as it ties in with the blinds in the living room? For the worktop have you also looked at the marble effect Quartz as its classic and should never date. Rather than tiles have an upstand and a splashback for the hob in the Quartz. Or if you want the wow, go for clear glass and have wallpaper underneath or commissioned art or silver leaf etc or even just a tiled splas hack. I also like your choice btw, i wouldn't pay attention to the kitchen company, it's your kitchen! Perhaps continue it down the side of the breakfast bar? have you considered cup handles? I love them and they give a contemporary or classic look to a kitchen. Comments (13)Hi, I've now had quartz worktops fitted in a white with grey and mirror flecks (compact lactea) & attach photos. Cabinets are all done too. My next area is what to do for splashback behind the hob/under the extractor. I originally wanted to do red glass across the length of the wall, but we have had under unit lights fitted below the higher cabinets and at night I can change these to any colour I want. If I do red all across I won't get the effect of the lights. Not even sure red would go? The wooden chairs are going and will be replaced & I still need to choose my island lights (thinking 3 pendants hanging). Husband thinks stainless steel sheet behind hob. I'm not sure this will look right with dark glass hob under it & wonder if it is hard to look clean all the time. What ideas do you all have as you helped with the worktops. Comments (16)Glass would look good - give you a little reflectance without mirroring everything on the worktop. Also could be a subtle way to introduce some colour. If you use clear glass with screw back type fixings, then you can change the colour now and then by painting the wall behind if you're nervous about colour, or think you would want to change the look now and then. 5 years agoWhat would be the best match on the walls if we have this splashback? My wife feels like just having a cream tiles rather than a bold one like orange or gold or copper. I know tiles would be cheaper than the copper ones you suggested.
