Vertical Panelling - Texture

Could I ask if the paneling is created along the same construction as floating shelves? I will be in the process of changing my 11yr old son's bedroom soon.. He is autistic and I think this would be a fantastic sensory option for him behind his bed or to the side wall. Any info would be much appreciated.. Beautiful apartment by the way.. great job.

Hello and thanks for the compliments, the panels are fixed to battens which space them off the wall by 50mm and create space top and bottom for LED strip... the battens run horizontally at 500mm centres , the vertical strips were added afterwards. In your case the panels could be premade with the vertical and hung on gravity battens. Many options here and happy to advise.

We have the same type of panelling in our hall and it was oak the same as yours with an oak floor. It just started to feel quite dark and drab but we hesitated to to do anything for fear of messing it up. In the end we painted all the panelling in Farrows French grey, left the doors and floors wood and painted the sides of our staircase and the spindles in Farrows clunch but left the newel posts and the bannister rail as wood - looks like a different hallway - I have never regretted painting it

Hi there, are you looking at leaded lights? Or plain coloured glass? There won't be much in the way of plain coloured without it having a texture because most plain glass is too thin to toughen and you will need toughened glass in those sized openings. There is etched glass which is a frosted type glass (not textured!) that lets light in but gives more privacy. We have it in our front door panels. Alternatively there are leased lights. The most expensive option though but could be stunning. However you would want to avoid any standard patterns, flowers etc etc and go for something very contemporary either in a variety of clear textured glass, full colour or half and half. Pattern wise I'm thinking something multiple layers of colours that swirl from the one larger panel right through to the smaller panel as if it's one whole window. Have a look on the web for some ideas but as I say, leaded lights are not very cheap and are extra expensive if you are in London/south of the country.

I should have said... the extension room leads from the kitchen and will either house dining room or living space. We will put storage on the far wall, bifold doors on front, and the back wall (attached to house) is likely to be where we have seating, either for dining or lounging. So the left wall is the only practical place to put a radiator where is won't get in the way. I agree it's not ideal to have the radiator as the first thing you see, which is why I was thinking of making it a non-standard type e.g. vertical, but I'm not sure which will be more practical and least unattractive. Could you make a feature with that end section and but the wooden strips diagonally? I've seen a photo of these been done but I cannot find it anywhere. You could then maybe use that are your feature area with a lovely floor standing mirror and a big plant or some other things you want to stand out in that corner. I think you can make an amazing feature from your mistake.... be not disheartened!!!
