Kitchen Floor Tile Choice
Hello all,
We're putting in a new kitchen and kitchen floor. We have a nice Victorian tiled hallway off it and would like to choose a tile that doesn't clash with both the hallway and our new kitchen units. Kitchen units have not been chosen yet but we like the look of a shaker style in grey, mid grey for the lower units and light grey for the upper.
So any advice on tile choice. I'm thinking another Victorian tile or patterned tile would be too much. I would tend towards a single colour that would pick up on some colour in the hallway and go with the grey also. But I'm probably fairly conservative so am open to any and all ideas.
My wife doesn't like the idea of a white or cream coloured tile.

Comments (4)Well now, that needs a bit assistance and some life injected into it doesn't it! Yes it's a dire plan, However, i do feel it could quite cheaply be improved. Let's work with the grey and the beautiful rustic brown of the wooden doors. I can't see a pic of the sink, but it will work well with the theme. I'd bang out all the cupboards on the cooker side and construct out of reclaimed wood an 'open kitchen' with shelving top and bottom. You can then open up the corner and create a lot more space. Excuse the rudimentary 'ms paint plan', but hopefully you'll get the idea. You can add big old baskets if you wish, coloured pots and pans, all sorts to add a splash of colour and warmth. Paint the cupboards on the bottom a good dark grey to compliment the Stove and get a bit of depth going. I love the idea of the mustard and it works brilliantly with grey. I'd have the same dark grey of the kitchen units on the range wall, with a mustard back drop and more rustic shelves. The vinyl flooring idea of yours is great, warmer to walk on, easily cleaned and affordable. Comments (50)Hi Getty Welty What a shame about the worktop but I think it's almost a blessing in disguise. Once you have settled on the worktop my advice would be to take samples of the cupboards & worktop to a tile shop and look at them altogether. You really need to see a large tile together with the other samples to appreciate the overall look. A 10 x 10 sample is only a representation of the whole tile and the colour changes on a larger scale. Yes I plan on getting a few samples of ceramic wood effect tile. Have also been looking at VLT.
Not sure about the blue. While it does draw on the colour in the hallway I'm just not that into a pale blue. Would prefer a dark blue which might work also. There is a good amount of daylight in the kitchen.
I think the colouring in the photo below is quite good for the kitchen units. We plan on having a tall dresser which could be in that dark green with the remaining units in grey. That vinyl herringbone or parquet seems to be a popular current style choice. Not sure if it will clash with the hallway though.
