Lighting Design Advice
Moving into a new build and the builder has included no central ceiling fittings? Only LED Dow lights in every room And no dimmers.
Are central ceiling fitting old old fashioned now? Or some how not contemporary? I just can’t imagine a bedroom with only LED ceiling lighting And no dimmer?
Any thoughts welcome, please. I was going to add a central fitting to most of the rooms, especially the dining room and bedrooms.
Also, what are the thoughts on wall lighting at the window? The island will actually be turned the other way and have a large canopy with ceiling extractor built into it that has, you guessed it, LED Down lights. There will be a small table at the other end of the kitchen near the glass doors and was thinking a pendant over that area?

Comments (3)In my humble opinion it looks ok. If I am reading the plan correctly you have a couple of rooms with a tray ceiling. For a soft atmosphere you might want to add table lamps. I would also want under cabinet lighting in the kitchen as I think that without it you are always preparing food in your shadow. Additionally I would get rid of the track lighting on the terrace as I think this will be too bright. Comments (8)Think twice about tiling the whole room. I agree with your initial thoughts that the feature tile is a bit random and I don't think it works with the large format tiles. Could do the large format tiles full-height around the shower and then just to half-height (or less) around the rest of the room. Painted walls above which can add colour. Or do large format on floor and the green tiles on walls? Or a combo of the green and a not-large-format white/neutral tile on the walls? Remember a plumbing merchant's job is to sell you as much stuff as possible - in this case lots of expensive tiles which are mostly unnecessary. Comments (6)We did option 1 (and love it), neighbours did option 2 (and am sure they love it), so both options work. Regarding light levels - think about how dark your kitchen is at the moment - it'd probably be lighter post-extension as you would knock through a bigger doorway into the open space and there will probably be patio doors in the new space letting more light in. One of the reasons we did option 1 was because we have room to the side of the house too, so created utility, study and garage there, with WC under the stairs. Neighbours didn't have that option.
