Fitting a shower into low ceiling bathroom
I posted on here a while back about our tile layout for our bathroom. We are still nowhere near deciding what to do, as we have decided to see if it possible to fit a shower in the bathroom. It would be great to have a separate shower but we really can't see how that would fit, so an other bath shower would be fine.
The issue is, the ceiling height. It's just 2m heigh so putting a shower above the bath would mean a tall person would be bumping their head!
We're considering buying a new bath as a solution. Can baths be bought we a lower bottom to allow for extra headroom? Or is there another solution?
Could a corner bath fit in the space and a separate cubicle perhaps? Is anyone willing to give us some inspiration to a new layout which would work please?
The other option we had considered (depending on cost) is to use some of the space from the bedroom next door. It's a fourth bedroom and currently not used. Our ensuite is also next to this, which again is small. Any ideas if we could improve the space of the bathroom and ensuite by changing the layout somehow? would it be a really bad idea to lose the space from the fourth bedroom which is actually a good size currently?
Bathroom
2.10m wide x 2.13m long
The entrance "hall" is 74cm wide x 104cm long
Ensuite
2.82m long x 1.16m wide
The bit where the shower sits is 1.60m wide (chimney breast makes the rest of the room width smaller)
Bedroom
3.22m x 2.36m
The ensuite window and bathroom window is actually one window and spilt by a stud wall.

Comments (17)Going by the plan above, i'm a little confused. Clearly the sliding door faces to the wall on the right, therefore, it is the length of the shower that should be in question not the width. The sink at 900mm is far too large for the bathroom. Either, have the stud wall at one end of the shower or the other, reduce the size of the sink and have room for the toiletries. You can still fit in a 900 wide shower, it makes no odds if it's 900 or 800. It's the length that's the problem. Alternatively the last option would be to have the 800mm wide shower with the 1200mm length and have the back wall built with niches for toiletries. These will however be constantly covered in water due to the shower head needing to be attached to that wall not the glass sliding doors as in the given illustration. So, better to go for option one or two with the wall at one end or the other. Comments (9)Just my view for most practical approach: Tile wall behind loo and sink up to window sill height only. Wall along length of bath tile up to height of showerhead and continue around onto shower head wall. Tiled skirting around remaining walls (neater and better for mopping) and paint everything else. Unless the tiling is the key design feature of a bathroom, I always prefer to keep it as minimal as possible - cheaper, quicker and less messy. 4 years agoI agree on both solutions above. Though some calculating makes me wonder if moving the door would mean moving the entire configuation, as the door would probably bump against the tub. And would you be ok with a 74cm wide shower?
The other option is to move the bathroom entirely. Your floorplan is not quite in scale so I placed the items nearly random. If it's large enogh you could give some closet space to the bedroom next to it. Good thing the wc and utility are below, so probably no large difficulties moving pipework. I've turned the old bathroom 'hall' into a linen closet, but could also be added to the bedroom. Removed the stud wall in front of the window, so yes more work, but also more elbow room.

4 years agoWe had a customer back in 2018 with a low ceiling height - we used a bath in a wetroom but there are a few options we can do.
Attached is an image.
If you need design help, pop into a showroom, a lot have a design service, usually chargeable (100-500) but will give great ideas.
This needs a full sit down and a lot of thought.

4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoCan't ask me about plumbing, dutch houses have internal vertical soil pipes :) (plus I'm no plumber). My 4th layout also has a toilet slightly moved 'inward'. Lose the ensuite, but with one decent sized bathroom and one tiny:
