Can conservatory become front entrance to home?
Comments (2)Thanks for taking the time to respond, I appreciate your expertise. It's one of my pet hates too that the entrance to a house is not clearly defined. This bungalow has 2/3 bedrooms and we need to create another 2 so the plan is to convert the room on the far left into a bedroom (it's currently a large kitchen/diner) and on the far right which is obscured by trees we plan to knock wc/utility room/storage space into another bedroom. In theory the home will almost be symmetrical from the front if we remove the exististing front door and make it good. Where the conservatory has been built lends itsself perfectly to the entry to the home. Ive looked at changing it to more of an orangery that could maybe blend into better or compliment the house whilst improving energy rating. Sorry, I'm rambling but this house has taken over my waking thoughts and dreams!...See Morecreating a front entrance ‘gate’ as a main door??
Comments (9)You will be altering the appearance of the front elevation. Planners, and planning departments, have different interpretations of the rules. It would be prudent to procure some pictures of your proposed gates ,and discuss your ideas informally with the local area planner before incurring any expense. Say you want to tidy up the front ( bins etc ) and provide better security to the dwelling ( a planning consideration ) and sound them out. It should be ok but for a bit of time it saves the potential hassle if they have a local policy and you were to buy gates that were, for instance too high for their liking without planning permission. I have had 2 instances recently were locals have not liked someone's gates and have informed the planners who insisted on a planning application. Either way it should be ok eventually. Good luck....See MoreEntrance Hall Design Dilemma - help please!
Comments (5)I agree with Minnie it's already looking lovely. I think a bit of texture would warm it up a bit. So I was going to suggest painting the door too and/or adding a door curtain - maybe a nice heavy velvet? Bottle green? You have a nice space to right hand side to pull the curtain over too. Also maybe a rug in front of the console table. I have a bit of an obsession with Persian style rugs as they can introduce lots of lovely warm, burnished type colours but that's just my preference. Something else on the floor would break up the coolness of the tiles - although you might have to experiment with some rug grips. Also some more art above radiator etc. It's already a very lovely hallway and so nice to have such a large space....See MoreDesign idea entryway facing directly to the front door
Comments (3)Hi there An offset wall near the front door can be tricky to work with, especially in a smaller space. It’s tempting to use it for coats, but this can quickly create a sense of clutter, especially important at ‘mouth of chi’ the key energy entry point into your home. From a feng shui perspective, we want this area to feel clear, welcoming and spacious so energy (and opportunity!) can flow in freely. Instead, consider using a mirror on that wall to visually “erase” the wall and bounce light around. Mirrors expand small spaces and symbolically open things up. Just make sure it doesn’t directly reflect the front door as we don’t want that fresh energy bouncing straight back out! If you really need coat storage, try a closed option like a slim cabinet to keep the area visually calm and energetically clear....See More- 7 years ago
