These were the tiles that can be made in different sizes although I didn't read at the time that they were actually brass...

I got some samples from a maker and they advised not using quite a few of them for splashbacks! They will stain and oxidise and some don’t wash well so it might worth speaking to them and getting some sample pieces send to see what finishes you can get. Some are ok if not behind a hob but some not as well so it’s worth checking.
Can’t remember the company name but they were in Liverpool so should be easy to find

Definitely has to go behind the hob, so that might limit things.

Definitely like patina, but not so keen on great smears of grease. Still not convinced anyone actually has these!

Consider glass splashbacks for practicality.
Decoglaze have a finish called Moon gold that has a similar lux feel

Ooh, thanks, I’ll have a look at that. Haven’t looked at glass as generally it’s part of quite a crisp modern look, that just isn’t me, but that one looks lovely.

@Alix I struggled for ages trying to find one and the ones that were suitable (mostly aged which weren’t as nice as I thought they would be) were coming in at over £600 for the length of our back run. No hob though so I’m not sure which ones would have been suitable by heat.

I ended up just painting the back wall in the same colour as the units as it’s vast and I might either have clear glass put over at some point or paint one up in gold spray with a waterproof varnish over. We do get splashes all the time from the tap so it will need something.

Oh I did get some panels from Ikea who do a fake brass (like a brushed light gold) effect which is really gold tone aluminium. Worth checking out as v cheap! Using them in my utility now instead, ha ha.

@Tani - thanks, and great minds think alike- I too bought some of the IKEA panels but I have realised there are limits to my thriftiness!

We too just painted to begin with, but it needs something now and I don’t like how unfinished it’s looking on my kitchen.

I’ve just got a quote from the metal Panels supplier above, and it’s not as bad as I thought, my run is just over 4m long though.

We have used antique mirror which looks great and comes in numerous finishes and density and would be easier to maintain? Great for reflecting light too.

@Minnie and Grouse, that’s a nice idea I’ll have a think about that. Do you know if you can run mirror behind a hob? Assume it’s ok as long as it’s toughened glass?

There’s a company called Rough Old Glass who do gorgeous “aged” mirrors, including splash backs. I think something similar (possibly the same?) was on George Clarke’s programme a few weeks back.

The toughened mirror is fine behind a hob, I don't think it needs to be toughened if it is over 20cm away from the heat source but assume that's not relevant here. I will be using rough old glass (when I eventually get my extractor changed to avoid cut outs). They do offer a measure and installation service but it didnt work out particularly cheap for me as it's just going behind my aga. It may be worth the spend for you though as the glass can't be drilled etc once tempered and I assume you have a few cut outs given the length needed. My wall is also wonky so measuring/templating is somewhat tricky. You may also find local companies offer antiqued mirrors so can opt for measure and install (and peace of mind as they'll have to correct any errors) but it may be a case of ringing round them all as they certainly don't advertise it where I live. I found a number whom offered antiqued mirror but only one whom could offer toughened.

Tidy worktops? That’s never gonna happen in my house, I’m afraid. (It’s not me, it’s him, he just won’t do it)!

We used copper leaf tiles from Original Style - they’re not cheap but the shine is great and doesn’t fade/oxidise. Glass splash backs that we found had a copper “colour” rather than the real sparkle of metal.
Pretty sure they do them in brass/gold too.
