I don't think the step is bad thing, it sounds like the flooring inside and the paving outside will end up the same level. However, it would sound like the door was measured incorrectly. ( If everything was fully explained to the operative that came round and did the measuring ) If that is the case, tell the company that you will accept the door, but that you want a discount because it's not what you wanted. You can only try!

Shortly after moving into a new build our kitchen and utility tiles started to sound hollow when walking on them. When the tilers came to lift the tiles [each 200mm x 100mm] they came up in sheets of around 20 to 30 tiles at once. The concrete floor was clearly not prepared before the originals were laid and the tiles had simply not keyed onto the floor. The tilers cleaned and sealed the floor [not sure what with... but the whole job was done in one day, so nothing too time consuming] and the new tiles have now been down for nearly 29 years with no problems.

We are planning a half/pony wall shower in the corner of our bathroom. We would like a shower door that doeasn't need a metal strip on the ground on the threashold as we wish to have a small tiled threshold instead. Can I buy any glass door and leave out the floor strip?

hi I wonder how long you have had the planter situated on the left side of the entrance. this may be a source of the problem. if water is being directed over the damp course on the wall. the rendered finish to the house does not show any indication of a dpc, so this could have been bridged by works in the past. the pavement level is high on the house looking at the step into the house. it should be 150mm or three brick courses. yours seems to be only 50 mm at the entrance. the door is fitted virtually flush in the opening and there is an absence of a threshold cill at the entrance. any water hitting the door will run down and be discharged through sweep holes on the profile onto the small margin at the front. this may be running along and entering around the door. in terms of solutions. check mastic seals at the door to try to renew. add a threshold strip to the door to throw water out off the door. check on some of the other possibilities. rising damp will contain ground salts, this can be tested on the internal wall with a salts meter, a surveyor can do this for you. sorry without more investigation the possibilities and solutions are wide open from your initial information. best Rowland
