Do you mean hearth, rather than heart? I used garden sandstone paving for mine, but tiles look nice either plain or patterned.

I like Sonia's suggestions. I don't think I'd go to the expense of moving the socket yet. See if you can conceal it with a tall candle, bucket or Buddha - see above :-)

Hi Andy - Looking at your second picture correct me if I'm wrong, it looks like you don't have a massive amount of space to the left of the fireplace and its quite close to the TV.

To be honest it all depends on what you want that area to do/give you? If you are after a feature and like the stove's suggested above then go for it. If you just want to make it look pretty without distracting from the TV then how about some logs with fairy lights and a couple of candles. Super cheap too!

That does sound like a good idea and the example picture looks fantastic. the only question I’d have is the fireplace is extremely tall, a lot taller than a standard fireplace.

I could fill it completely with logs but that might be a log overload. Alternatively I was thinking of having a wood shelf halfway up with logs underneath and items such as candles and Photo frames on the shelf. Any thoughts?

Hi Andy - I agree I would only fill half the area up with logs you could even layer them up gradually so that one side looks taller than the other. And add few candles on one side (I would put them on the right side to offset the TV side).

I would avoid building a shelf and just keep this area for the logs and candles only, otherwise it could look too cluttered. If you want to add family pictures how about creating a family gallery wall? Its at eye level and more likely to see it often.

Thanks a lot for the help. I think what you mean by layering is having a slope of logs with either the left or right side lower than the other side?

I also thought I could paint the inner walls of the fireplace a different colour e.g grey so the areas exposed not cover by logs are more interesting?

Hi Andy - Yes exactly, having a slope of logs would look really good!

Oh yeah that would work too - painting it could create a little feature :)
