New colour scheme?? Help
my kitchen/dining room needs a bit of a new look. I can’t afford to change the tiles and flooring but it definitely needs freshening up and a new colour theme. I’ll be getting new wood work tops and all the signs etc to come down. Any ideas on colours that will work with those tiles And floor? It’s a great space and I’m stuck on what to go for. Thanks for any ideas or advice

Comments (2)Hi, what a lovely space. Have you enough budget to change the banister style? They're really busy and detract from your gorgeous ceilng. Glass panels might be good. Also, what's the floor like under the carpet? If it's decent timber could you keep it? A waxed or varnished finish could bounce some light around the room. Have you got a sofa etc? What colour is the upholstery? And of course you need to think about the colours you like! Personally I couldn't stand living with peach or terracotta colours on my walls, and I don't like pale blues either, so that limits my schemes! Comments (14)Ah... if you haven't moved in, stay off paint for a while. They can hide minor leaks! Pressure test the bathroom before painting. You will find it a lot less boring during summer! If you are ordering shutters, a non-white one might be a good option to start with. If you don't want to invest at such early stage, look up 247blinds, I always get my blinds from them and the blinds are very easy to install. Hope it helps :)...See MoreNew colour scheme
Comments (6)Hi, Avanti, You're right, there are so many shades of white that it is hard to choose! My own feeling is to always have some contrast between the walls and the brilliant white on the ceiling and woodwork, so look at something such as Slipper Satin from Farrow & Ball; that is a good neutral that is white, but not pure white. You will need to get a sample and paint it on lining paper so that you can check what it looks like in various places in the room and in various lights, and adjust it if needed. I would go ahead and use pure white for the woodwork; that way the softer shade on the walls will provide a contrast and therefore greater depth to the room!...See More
6 years agoMy units are exactly like yours, a soft cream slab door! I really like your floor, and a wooden worktop would look good. I think a pale cream or off white (Dulux Almond White maybe) would calm things down a bit. As you already know, the room is a bit busy with the wallpaper, lime green paint, signs and dark tiles. Are you keeping the wallpaper? If you are, then a neutral shade on the walls. If you want colour on the walls, I would still go with a calm, soft shade - sage green or duck egg blue go well with cream.

I would stick with one colour to prevent it being too busy. You could have a feature wall in another colour if you have an “end” wall, if you get what I mean! The far wall in my kitchen is navy. Would you mind sharing a picture of the other end of the room? I love the clock by the way. Here are pics of my rather small kitchen just to give more ideas, or not!

Here is the other end. The kitchen is plastered. The other end is anaglypta and wallpaper on the chimney breast, no idea how the walls are underneath so not keen to take it off. I could plain paper over the chimney breast and paint it
PRO6 years agoI like you wallpaper and industrial touches. How about go more industrial and install black worktop and paint Charcoal?

Or keep the worktop similar to the cabinets colour: cream or beige
Sanderson Graphite is a nice charcoal . We painted our kitchen dark grey and it looked really warm in any light

Yes I think the tv wall could be a different, bolder shade. Navy (of course), deep green or a blend of the two like F&B Inchyra Blue. You get the idea in Marina’s mock up of that wall. I have painted over wallpaper in the past as I was too lazy to strip the paper off. It was okay! Don’t forget you can add more colour with accessories. It is your home so choose colours you love.
E D - off course I tidied up! However I realise I left a bottle of orange squash on the side - I really need to get a life lol! :-)
