Need help on color scheme for my new kitchen plzzzz

Hi we are building a house and the kitchen is being custom made. The color is the difficult part. In the kitchen we will have a black aga with chrome, we have four sliding sash ivory windows and two dark grey bi-fold doors. Initially we were going to go with antique white presses, black knobs and the island in a dark grey with a grey/white granite worktop. Now anytime we ask people for their opinions we get mixed responses to white, most people advising to go with ivory kitchen and the dark grey island. My concern with ivory is that unless it matches the windows it will look wrong and as we have four big windows there would be too much ivory. Just to add that the kitchen is very bright as in addition to the windows and bi-fold doors we have two significant skylights. What are the views?

Ivory sounds best, can you purchase a door sample and sit it next to the window for a week and see what you think? If your kitchen is bright then the ivory will become lighter. Do you have any photos or images of you windows and the cupboard doors you are trying to decide between?

No pics of kitchen cupboards yet as they are being made in a workshop a distance from where we building Nor recent pics of kitchen, will take some this weekend. Will try sample of door painted in Ivory as u suggest. Hard to picture how full kitchen will look and so hard to know when not living in house

Hi, what a lovely space. Have you enough budget to change the banister style? They're really busy and detract from your gorgeous ceilng. Glass panels might be good. Also, what's the floor like under the carpet? If it's decent timber could you keep it? A waxed or varnished finish could bounce some light around the room. Have you got a sofa etc? What colour is the upholstery? And of course you need to think about the colours you like! Personally I couldn't stand living with peach or terracotta colours on my walls, and I don't like pale blues either, so that limits my schemes! I think your room is big enough to have a rich colour on the end wall but you may want to go for a neutral scheme... Good luck!

Hi Emily, I teach colour theory and my best advice is to try to think of how colours interact with each other, rather than whether you like them individually. We only have names for about thirty colours, and yet we can see hundreds of different hues. There is alot of good stuff on youtube and there is the Farrow and Ball 'How to Decorate' book. The main issue is recognising tone (how dark or light something is) and undertones (the discernible hue) that is, if something has a blue tinge, red tinge etc, even if it looks grey. It's a big subject.

I have dove grey handleless doors in my kitchen but have the same colour all round and on the island too. I painted the walls in Wevet which is almost a white but with a mere hint of grey. You can only really tell the grey tone when it’s against the white ceiling join. On the wall at the far end where the dining table is I have wallpaper to add a bit of interest. Perhaps these are options for you?
