I like the grey and purple idea, Farrow and Ball Elephants Breath and Brassica would look great (see pic) or you could go more dramatic with Farrow and Ball Pelt as the room looks lovely and light, so could take strong colour. I think change the clock on the fireplace to a statement mirror and add some pattern with the soft furnishings. There's a bit of a French influence in the style of the console and there's a country feel to the fireplace, so for curtains maybe a check or ticking stripe, or if you want more French you could have damask or floral pattern, mix and match colour and patterns. Maybe add a rug to the new wood floor for a bit of texture.

Hello ttjiangtt, They're good sized room and what a view in each! I suppose the first thing you tried was to situate the bed so it faces the windows.. If at all possible this might be rather nice. Looking at the images with current positions they are not bad I think.. One thing I like to do is have a view of the room from the doorway.. So you see the rooms layout. Another thought perhaps is to just forget what most people do and work to an orientation that suits you and the space.. If you have a clear view of the windows from the door, you may want to use this as the focus and situate the room around this.. Means you're facing away from the window but visually from the door it could provide a nice view! Alternatively situate the bed right in the middle of the room facing the windows.. It may be not what most people would do but you can create its focus in the same way as you can against a wall.. Why not try and have a move around and see what you find works for you... If not, I think they're good as they are and the walls, cupboards you might face perhaps they could be made a focal point and or more interesting.. :))

New year, new dining room. Thank you for all your suggestions and advice, they have been really helpful and we are finally making progress and incorporating many of your ideas. We have freshened up the room with pale cream walls and replaced the lighting with a central vintage style glass coolie shade from Chestnut Lighting and a Dunelm Wooden Floor Lamp. The nails are in the wall and we will be grouping a collection of pictures and photos on one wall rather than having then randomly spaced. They don't look straight in the photo but they look better in real life! The room is now cleared out as we are waiting on wood flooring in an antique oak stain with a sheen. We are then thinking of a circular cream rug or carpet with bound edges. We have trialled different layouts and the smaller unit is going and the larger one is going on the the blank wall behind the door. This opens up the room. We are getting near the finishing line and I will post final photos before too long, I hope.
