Design Dilemma Kitchens Renovating

Layout/design help please!

Good evening

We’re currently trying to design our kitchen/dining/family room extension. I’ve mocked up a rough floor plan (albeit there’s an internal door into the utility room opposite the door into the garage which I couldn’t add to the plan for some reason!). How would you suggest we use the space given the positioning of the grass and patio areas? The things we’d like included are:

A kitchen island with seating
A dining table
A sofa area with tv

Any design/layout ideas gratefully received!

Hi, bumping your question. Dimensions might be useful. And a floorplan of the existing situation, so we can see how things connect to the rest of the home. I wouldn't let the patio or grass situation dictate where what should go. You can probably add another patio if necessary.

Hi Helena,

I would suggest putting the kitchen as an L shape by the Utility and grass wall. The dining room can go in the middle and then the seating area by the patio and sitting room doors. Some dimensions would be useful to give some sort of scale but if you want a chat and bounce some ideas around, feel free to get in touch.

I think you’ve got the window placements right. I like the layout of the sofa as well. Just wondering whether you really need a desk or could homework be done at the dining table? If you really wanted a workstation area could you block off the door into the utility room (create access to utility from the hallway instead) which creates a nice corner for a lovely piece of furniture/bookcase with maybe a foldout desk.

Hi Mandy, What a lovely house! high ceilings and large windows which encourages lots of natural light. It'll be a beautiful home once it's done! Have you got a plan with measurements on at all? these would be helpful to create floor plans and layout suggestions for the kitchen area. Are you wanting to keep a laundry room? If you have access to a plan or any measurements I'd be happy to take a look at it for you to suggest some options? Thanks everyone. I think we are going to extend the hallway into the utility as this is the cheapest option and the utility needs doing anyway. We are going to remove some of the cupboards, so that the pushchair can go in the space created and move the sofa to block the playroom door... then we can test it out for a few weeks. I've reorganised the kitchen cupboards, moved the microwave and the plates etc and its made a big difference already to how the kitchen feels. Feeling positive :)
