Colour Scheme For Open Plan Space

Hi All

What does everyone think about this colour scheme for an open plan living area.

The kitchen run is in Dove Grey (on the right) the island in porcelain.

The tiles are light pink. The worktops in carerra quartz with a mix of that and oak on the island. I have a large drinks cabinet/dresser to paint in F&B vardo with the inside painted calamine. I was going to paint all the walls in Wimborne white. The room is east facing so direct sunlight in the mornings.

Dove grey fascias and Carerra worktops look great together. Oak added into the scheme is nice too. Personally I’m not a lover of pink but if that’s what you like then it’s your kitchen.

If your tiles are pink then you need a very neutral wall colour so white IMO would be a good choice.

I also have dove grey and am about to swap my worktops to Solid Surface Taj Mahal (very much like Carerra) and will be re-painting my walls in Wevet tone (copied by Johnstones as it’s a portion of the price). This might also be an option?

I really like it, including the pink tiles. In fact, it sounds amazing! I agree a white for the walls would be the safest bet.

Thanks for the ideas all, certainly given me some food for thought. @Rinqcreation, your house looked amazing! Can I ask how you changed the colour in the photo posted? Was it via some flash autocad software or something easy I can do myself? Looking at your photo i'm thinking maybe that shade is a bit too dark as you suggested. Maybe a few shades lighter would look good; going to have to put some test shades on the wall I think. Good idea about waiting through the seasons, but the thing is we have a very young family (2 year old twins + 6 year old) and if we don't get the decorating done before we move in we never will!!!!!!!!

It's an awkward one as a lot of the kitchen is in the dining area, and the space that you don't want to have a table & chairs is opposite the sink. You could put one of the armchairs there. Keep the sofa where one is at the moment. You could go for a darker cognac leather or dark grey. Grey tones go with the brick. A nice bright rug would look good, but I'd keep the walls light and airy as they are now. In order to place something like this arrangement, you will have an armchair near to the sink. Although the kitchen is lovely...........If you ever have the budget, i'd consider moving the kitchen around. Change the island possibly for a smaller one and turn the side run of units along the left hand wall to across the room for 'U' Shape, giving you a much better sofa / lounge area.

Dulux Rock Salt is a grey but off-white which reflects a lot of light but dries darker than a white. It joins warmer colours like blush or grape well and the Laura Ashley Garrat side table in honey you can see sits well too. It easily matches your marble but would join your tiles, accent wall and floor up I'm positive. This is in our westerly facing landing and stairs which doesn't get a massive amount of light; painted this week (so not quite finished). In my view, yellowy greys look more of a beige too and would look sickly with your other colours (the dust sheets you can see are creamy beige for context). Rock salt looks very clean without out being cold.

Hi Andrea Broadbent, we like how you have the dark to light within the open plan space its really helped to zone the room. In terms of changing the furniture from the comments above, you can get sofa fabrics now which are aqua clean and can be simply cleaned with just water therefore a lighter fabric could be an option. You could opt for wallpapering more than one wall such as the one with the door and the fireplace wall. ....I'd steer away from the pink tiles and go for some pink paint and accessories instead. If you change your mind or ever want to upgrade it will be alot cheaper and easier. More saleable too if you want to move in the future. Colour scheme is great though....!
