Oak Stair Cladding Kit

Hello Houzzers I hope you are all keeping safe and well. Would really like your opinions before I commit to buying please. Our stairs need a bit of attention so I recently bought a set of solid Oak stair Cladding kit (full sized thread and riser) My question is. Can this be fitted over the existing thread or will it make the the stairs too high? We don't currently have wood on our stairs just whatever the subfloor material is and carpet over that. The thread and riser is as in the pic. I hope someone has some experience with this and can answer my query. Thanks in advance 😁

How thick is it? In comparison to the carpet, that is? Is there underlay also? What will it abut to at the top?

Hi Victoria the thread is 3cm thick and the riser is 2cm. The current carpet is short pile not sure of the thickness and has underlay. We plan to have a runner and the top be finished as in this picture with the landing fully carpeted.

Painted stairs are really noisy. If the wood is in good condition then varnish it. Perhaps paint the risers a colour (colour of the walls?).

I painted the stairs all the way across as it was just as quick as trying to paint just the edges. I had intended to add a runner but liked the look so much I haven't done. The bottom two stairs are curved and I couldn't work out how the runner would sit over them. I used floor paint but it does need repainting every year or two, so it's not the most practical solution.

Good morning Emanuel. Thank you for the picture! It is easier to recommend something when we can see the actual staircase. For your steps and risers, I recommend using our stair cladding parts as you can install them over your existing steps and risers (they are extremely easy to install). You can go for a walnut or white oak timber/colour. The newel post, handrails and spindles don't look too bad so it is up to you if you want to change them or not. It would look better if you changed them. You can renovate them with a stop chamfered design, or you can even go with a glass design (which seems to be the preferred solution for staircase renovation in 2016). Because we have this competition going on, I would suggest that for now you place a small order (maybe buy the cladding products) and then, if you win, you'll be able to get the other stair parts for free. Here is one of the projects where we used our stair cladding parts with our glass panels.

Just seen this post and as a glass company would like to offer some inspiration and advice with the current staircase as it is with the open threads I would be keen to recommend a stand off fixed balustrade with or without a handrail its really your decision, see the below photo of a job we did with stand offs fixings and a matching stainless steel handrail. If you were to reconfigure the stairs there are other options such as balustrade clamps or baserail fitting as per below photos. So is it more a replacement kit for treads and risers? Would have thought you could get something thinner. It will throw out the bottom tread.

Thank you Vivtoria. I don't seem to be getting my notifications so apologies for my lack of response. Thank you for the recommendations however, have decided to go with the solid oak as I'm not a fan of veneer. I have also figured that the steps will level out as I'll be adding equal sized threads to each stair....I think it will work out. I think 🤔
