That made me smile and is so true OnePlan. Personally I always go for a kitchen diner for the same reasons as Jaimie but also because the sense of space is so much more relaxing to work in as well. Choose a good classic design and colour for the kitchen units so that you can zone the dining area in complimentary colour if you want to.

Hi Jay, we agree that a golden oak could clash with your walnut worktop. But think you could still go for an oak with lighter or ashen tones. The shades below are understated so would be great for flowing through multiple rooms too. And of course, as they're lighter floors they'd help to keep your spaces feeling nice and open. Hi. Personally I'd put a slatted room divider (just the unit width) at the end of the sink run to allow light and zone the kitchen area slightly. (I will try and find a picture showing the same in a similar kitchen). Assuming the fridge isn't staying, I'd just buy a white one so it blends in, maybe like a retro style one as they look a bit prettier. I'd also opt for a round table. You could paint the wall (and rad) behind the table a darker/warmer colour and add art. Hang the light low over the table to zone it and maybe have a mirror or mirror tiles on the left wall. You could also consider acrylic chairs as they don't visually fill the space. I'd go for a wider curtain pole to maximise light coming in. Sofa, choose something on legs with narrow arms, being able to see the floor will make the room bigger and maximise seating. I also wouldn't choose anything dark as it could take over the room, just use dark/warm colours for cushions and throw if wanted. There are plug in wall lights around which won't take up any floor space. I don't know if you need storage but you should be able to fit a sideboard between the dining and living area? Re shopping suggestions, you don't have any ideabooks set up so could you give people an idea of styles and colours you like?

Hi Ros, I would have a think about how much extending/ changing layout would cost in all. If you only plan to be there for a few more years at the most then it may be worth considering the move sooner. However, if you are planning on staying and making some changes, open plan living is a fantastic option for a growing family. Opening the space between the dining and kitchen area would create a lovely big room with plenty of roaming space. Open plan living is also a very popular option these days so I don't necessarily think it will hamper any future sale with not having the two separate rooms. We have a large number of clients who want to knock walls down and extend to accommodate a more open plan layout and it's certainly an option that is increasing in popularity. Extending below the car part could be quite costly considering you may want to move in a few years time. Without actually looking at it, it's difficult to determine if it would be worthwhile. Aimee
