Hi, can the door to the lounge be moved? Or would that mess up the lounge layout?

I'm very interested in following this to see what advice you get as we are doing the same thing with our kitchen and the dimensions are very similar.

Hi Sarah, You have so much potential for this space. I have drawn up a draft lay out that could work, but you have so many possibilities with layouts.

Bench style seating is a Great space saving option.

I see you said you struggle with interior design. I am currently running an offer on my low cost E-design service. This includes 1 to 1 Consultation call, inspiration and vision board, material board, Product concept board, colour palette, personalized shopping list with links ready for you to buy and advice and guidance from a professional. From what I can see this space would cost no more than £300 for all this with an added 10% discount.

I've actually just designed a very similar room to yours and was send early photos the other day which you may find useful!
I'm sure Hannah won't mind me showing you even though she still has a few more bits to do. I've also copied what she said about the design process. She chose to buy through DIY kitchens and was delighted with the quality.

rather than dividing up the room into kitchen and dining, we put a large kitchen table in the middle (still to buy) so that she has lots of space for family life as well for cooking. Having the lower working height is really useful for cooking with kids or for baking when you're working over higher bowls.

Emily helped us with our kitchen design and ordering for a recent kitchen extension. We could not be happier with her designs and input - we had been to several big retailers for kitchen design and none of them were quite right for our space and family.

Thank you for the ideas. Unfortunately the door to the lounge can’t be moved. That was my suggestion but would involve steels and structural engineers which adds to the cost.

with a narrow kitchen, dont have full depth larder units - try ones on one side which are only as deep as a wall unit. you can still fit lots in without losing things at the back! it will help keep your room feeling open. avoid wall units over your work surfaces as well to keep your room feeling larger. One last thing, dont have a big american fridge but try an undercounter drawer fridge under a peninsula breakfast bar. These things made our kitchen go from cramped to open and spacious and it is not that wide a space either

Thank you Penny. Luckily I don’t like the American fridge freezers. I am very minimalistic and like everything hidden behind doors. Is there any chance of seeing a picture of your kitchen? I like the idea of keeping the wall space above the worktops clear but wouldn’t that cut down on storage? Seems strange maybe but I like to keep the cups and coffee etc above the kettle.

We have cups, glasses and plates all in pan drawers under the kettle and all food in the cupboards on the left. We got rid of a lot of unnecessary duplicate pans (and haven't missed them!) and have made a kitchen that is less than 3m wide feel much bigger

Wow that is absolutely lovely. So homely but modern at the same time. Loads of workspace which I love as I cook all the time. The tall cupboards are a great idea as they give loads of storage without using too much space. I am getting Howdens to do me some designs and will definitely mention this to them. Thank you
