Different floor in extension

We have a conservatory which we are thinking of replacing with a bigger extension to add another area to our open living space. There will be no door or separation at all but it will be used as a garden room.
Our issue is flooring, we have open plan living with wood floors so one option is to pull it all up and have the floor match and flow into the extension.
Would it be aesthetically wrong to have a different floor in the extension? Can anyone provide experience, pictures or a blog of this type of thing?

We'll be removing the furthest window up to and including the UPVC door and building out from there.

I would address this with either steps (lowest budget) or a patio/deck - likely a combo of both. Patio or deck would add usable outdoor space and provide a return on your investment.

Hi Renata, If the difference between tiles is minimal is going to look bad. The best option is to use something completely different and I would suggest if you have a different size (even 3mm) to use a wood or stone insert (maybe with some led) to completely divide the 2 areas, and also a different layout (i.e. if your actual tiles are landscape put the new one diagonal or portrait) Best Regards, Phase 0 Design

In this situation trying to match a colour is a nightmare and any slight variance will be obvious and will probably irritate you over the years. In my opinion a contrasting colour is your best option and, if configured properly, it will look like this was an intentional design decision rather than a compromise.

Hi, Our extension is part built, and in order to plan the most appropriate lighting etc we need to settle on the layout very soon but we are struggling! Really crude diagrams below on how we could fit a table and seating area in. 1st - Sofa area under the roof lantern, and table/chairs (potentially built in seating) in the corner area 2nd - Dining table under roof lantern, with sofa in the corner area I think we're leaning to the 1st as 2nd feels a bit too closed off, but would love to hear thoughts on this :) Then i need to work out layout of spots and wall lights :)
