please help inspire clueless guy

I've bought new furniture and decorated room. I know need to buy new curtains and cushions and some wall art etc. I'm drawing a blank. I don't just want neutral colours. I've googled accent colours etc and am lost 😣😣. The rug I don't ideally want to replace as it was expensive. I like brown grey black etc but don't want the room to look to monochrome...
did I mention I'm clueless at this stuff

I assume this is a living room so could you add the sofa please? What’s the checked fabric and what colour are the walls?

Hi linen check fabric looks good but would be concerned tattle clunch might look green in some light ! It might be better with white tie if you like the creamy colour or stony ground. It's very difficult to give you advice without having the samples of wallpaper and wood worktop in front of me I do sometimes goggle rooms or kitchens painted in farrow and ball white tie for example lots of images come up it also might be worth calling farrow and ball direct as they offer a great service on the tel for free Am assuming you are using an water based eggshell from farrow and ball and not colour matching the paint !otherwise all your work will be in vain as colour matching paint will never be the same as buying the paint from farrow and ball Advice don't paint the wall in any farrow and ball tester pots paint some lining paper or card board then you can move the board around the room and see the colour in different day light and in the evening in artificial light. Also means you can then save your £3.50 pot on the board ready to use in another room or lend to a friend. If you paint squares of colours all over the wall then it will only confuse you and it's difficult to paint over Farrow and ball paint is brilliant but never colour match Best of luck wish I could help you further Lindsey

Hi. It’s a lovely room.Without knowing which way it faces (plus are the sofas mink with a pink undertone as they look different in each photo!) I might go for something like f&b brinjal in first pic (or a berry type colour) with maybe skimming stone on the other walls. If in budget I’d swap the clock for a larger brass mirroR. I’d add a brass floor lamp one side of the sofa and the other a similar style side table to 4th pic with a table lamp. A set of art prints over the sofa might work, impossible to choose art for someone but Oka do a number of sets you may like. I’d also accessorise the coffee table with things that can’t do your child/ren harm ie book or 2, wooden decorative pieces or puzzle, plant in a basket etc. You could also add baskets on the shelf for the toys

You are right. i went into BQ yesterday to see what an 800 x 800 shower was like - IT WAS TINY. I think I need a 1000 x 800 minimum and as such whipped up two layouts where one requires the toilet to move to a new party wall whereas the other keeps the toilet on the exterior wall but moved closer to the window. The second layout proposal results in a small gap between toilet and shower enclosure. Im concerned that gap might be too tiny to walk through? FYI Wall with the window is exterior Wall to the left separates bedroom Wall with the door is internal Wall with the proposed toilet is the party wall with neighbour. i have also posted a vanilla layout of the room size including window and just the door. Is one of the proposed layouts better than the other? Are there any other layouts I could consider? Layout 2 - is the gap between the shower enclosure and toilet be ok? Vanilla Layout Layout 1 - requires toilet to move to party wall.

here's the stuff labelled up. I mentioned I was clueless. here's some pics of the living room too. not all furniture is in place and tv cupboard will be replaced after I build the new one. a lot of the orange stuff I've had for ages and want it to look different. my mum did the canvas art but I'd put that in another room

Okay, so... the rug, as expensive as it was, doesn't really work in this room. It is too small. Maybe you have another space in your home for it? Would the smaller sofa fit on the other side of the room?

As for colours; how about black, brown and blue? And a little bit of light beige?

I like what Carolina has done and agree re the rug size. I might be tempted to keep 1/2 of the orange cushions (but get plumper pads) or a couple of new ones to reference the orange in the curtains or art obviously

Ooo.. I like the idea of keeping a couple of the orange items. Maybe your mother could make another canvas piece so there will be three above the sofa? Or if not, I'd hang these two closer together, perhaps 15 cm apart? Than it'll seem more like one big piece instead of two very separate ones.

I also think that two or three cushions per sofa will probably be enough

hi Carolina I'm loving the blue! I dont mind removing the orange all together. the rug you've suggested is painfully (for me) virtually identical to the one I replaced - it was natural jute 😁. I could move the sofas theres plenty of room

my old mum probably would do me some new canvas arts - if I asked nicely. I get what you mean about them being too far apart.

haha. it was a bit small as it was from my last house. my last living room was designed for me. it's a different room it's just basically the same type with bay window. you can see that most of what I have just came from my old house

Oh... now I don't feel so bad anymore :-D That was way too small too. Generally the thought is that all front feet of the sofa(s) and chair(s) should be on the rug. It's the glue that holds the room together. If you do like the idea of a jute rug again, Ikea have good sized ones for little money. Or look at LaRedoute and Made.com. I think the one that I've put in your room was from Made. Think they have some funky rugs with blue in it too, if I remember correctly.

I like the idea of a medium coloured rug (like the brown), because your sofas are so dark. You need something that makes the transition to the lighter colours smoother. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it well.
