Colour Dilemma!
We are in the middle of creating a new kitchen and my hubby has been making it and leaving me to choose colours to go on the units and the tiles. I feel like I've made a huge mistake and need some direction. We have gone for teal counter units, blush pink tiles and I was hoping to have yellow wall cabinets however it's not bringing me joy. I'm contemplating leaving the wall cabinets in their natural form and to swap the tiles to a teal colour and then paint the butler and broom cupboard which will be oth the other side of the island (which hasn't been built yet) in a mustard yellow colour.
But if anyone has any other ideas then please let me know. I'm completely baffled

3 years agoYes too many different colours, it will never work. I would let the expensive part dictate (the cupboards) and then go for simple white tiles - they needn’t be boring and you can have them an interesting shape such as hexagonal or stacked. It will look much more stylish and give a lovely Scandi feel.

Comments (3)Might sound crazy but a subtle two tone might work not colour blocking but a gradual subtle shade diff a soft off white blue grey teal on top that will not fight against the very bright white window frames and keeping a small room light.. and then getting to a soft blue grey darker teal colour with a soft graded border. And consider painting the unit soft white with an all surface soft white mat or soft sheen paint. Pop up a large piece B&W family photo or a family picked piece of wall art or something wacky like a giant gold fish on a white background framed in a thin bright orange frame and job done...or look up dark snugs/dens with rich bold colours can work well if done correctly .. good luck.....See Morekitchen colour dilemma
Comments (13)Thanks sonia I'll try to watch it :) . I am having underfloor heating. I like the warmth of wood effect but also like the brightness of plain tiles. Definitely leaning towards dark units , island still undecided (all dark/ Dark with white worktop/all white) . Floor--- wood effect or plain , no idea. I am afraid wood with dark units will make to dark/ busy. Whilst plain light with dark units make look too clinical. what to do ? Is there an app where you can put all these and visualize? Comments (3)Definitely agree: it is so hard to see colours on screen... I have looked at all the blues and some times they look darker, sometimes lighter.... I am currently leaning towards LG French Grey and LG Royal Navy for my kitchen, but I really need some painted cards to see them in my kitchen, in my light. With your style of kitchen a bit of a discordant colour clash can actually work well, I'm just not convinced about the pink. Personally I love teal with bronze, caramels and browns. With anything like orange it will start screaming at you. You can see with the third and fourth images below the introduction of another strong colour makes it very 'active' which is maybe what you want. When I put two opposite colours together I would tend to make one dirty so teal + brown (dirty orange) etc. Have you looked at Claybrook finger tiles?
