I’d go for a neutral curtain with texture to blend with the walls so that you can continue to use all the bright bed linen. Love that colour.

I agree with Fiona that plain curtains in a similar shade to the walls/wardrobes would let your bedding shine. Love your bed!

Thanks guys, so possibly a textured pale grey? I don't really want cream it just feels too plain. My bedside lamps are a similar pale grey to the wardrobe so could that work? 🤔

Dunelm do blackout curtains which look much more expensive than they are, and hang really nicely. I've got the mocha colour but pretty sure they do various greys too. I'd advise to get curtains which come all the way to the floor if you can.

Really? All the way to the floor on three sets of windows.... Won't that look a bit much? Also, I've just hung two pale grey towels over the rail to see how it looks and I'm worried it looks a bit bland??!

I just have a dislike of curtains which stop mid-wall (they remind me of too-short trousers!), but it's personal preference - go with what you feel works. Or you could go for roman blinds which means you can choose interesting fabrics without the bulk of curtains. Or plain curtains (if pale grey looks bland with the wardrobes and walls, maybe try a darker grey which might add some depth to the colour scheme), with a coloured blind behind them if you'd like more colour (or vice versa). The possibilities are endless and it does come down to your own style preferences - your bedroom should bring you joy! Personally I love my plain mocha bedroom curtains as I have a colourful rug and art, and in that space, neutral curtains give quite a serene feel. But I'm quite minimimalist in my tastes and you might prefer more colour.

Personally I would choose a plain neutral curtain to match the colour of your bed or wardrobe.

Then I would paint the wall in a muted version of one of the colours that you have in your bedding... so if all the bedding includes a punch of green then paint the walls a restful green

That looks really nice actually thanks for the wall colour idea. It might be a while before I get to decorating the bedroom as there are a lot of things I need to prioritise first so I need to pick a curtain that will be adaptable in the future whatever I decide to do in there.

Love Jonathan’s dark wall suggestions. If you did that you could go for pale teal curtains which will tie in with the wall colour? If it’s too many curtains then Roman Blinds in teal would look very smart. I recently bought teal blue curtains for my kitchen from Dunelm and they were very reasonable. In fact my curtains sit well with Oval Room Blue by F&B which I will arrange to have the walls painted in. Just waiting for my 2nd vaccine before I let anyone in my home just yet!

Gorgeous fabric and a lovely colour. I still love the dark walls, but a pale, soft grey would work on the walls. It will be a stark contrast though, so a tiny bit of me isn’t sure, but it’s your home, so do what feels right.

Dunelm and John Lewis both have some lovely neutral curtains that have a little bit of texture. I recently replaced some curtains and finally decided on a range called “Jennings” from Dunelm. I chose these because they came in a soft textured grey and a soft neutral - and they have a lovely deep pencil pleat that makes them look way more expensive than they were. They are also thermal lined - which also acts as a blackout.

I too have 3 windows in my bedroom. It looked fussy with 3 sets of curtains so I replaced them with Roman blinds - the fabric on each blind starts at the top of the wall where it meets the ceiling to elongate the room. It works well. Unless your room is large, I think blinds would look better.

I vote for dark walls too! Mine are dark green and currently have a bright orange duvet.
Roman blinds also look well. I don’t like a dark blind though on pale walls unless it is picking up a colour from elsewhere in the room so that it looks like it has been chosen for a reason.

I would go for a restful grey/aqua on the walls and then have darker teal Roman blinds - they look good if backed with a bonded blackout lining. It gives them more substance. That’s what I often suggest when I make them for clients.

So I think that thanks to the suggestions from you all I have pretty much decided on roman blinds although still undecided on colour so I've ordered some samples. I just had a question about where I should hang them. Our house is very old and has ridiculously thick walls. I can't help thinking that if set in the recess they would look a bit ridiculous. I have a blackout blind stuck to one of the windows at the moment and it makes the window look like a massive hole in the wall! Thoughts?.....

Im not keen on light walls and dark blinds. It’s light sapping, and as you say looks like a hole in the wall. Decide on a wall colour (if you are repainting) then go for curtains of a similar shade. My blinds in my kitchen are on the outside of the window frame, but it’s a cluttered area as the bit above them is where the pipes are boxed in!

It's funny you say that as I'm still leaning towards peacock blue blind and light grey walls. 😬

I've had the material hung up there a few days and I like it. I'm not sure I want the walls that dark. I daren't do it. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Then I'd end up with grey walls, grey wardrobe and grey curtains which I feel is too bland. Am I mad??

I think I'm just scared of bold colours on walls. I've always rented and been surrounded by magnolia. Maybe I should just go for it.

Get some lining paper and paint samples. Paint on the paper and move it round the room. You can see how the light affects it. You don’t have to go for a dark colour. Try something mid.

My darker wall is behind the bed and it is a mid tone. That’s all I can cope with! Keep the rest of the walls light whether it is cream, taupe or light grey depending on what colour you use for the feature wall and what else you have in the Room. This is my darker, but not dark, wall. I’ve changed the lights since this pic and the rest of the room will be pale grey (Dulux Polished Pebble) once I’ve booked a decorator.

HU-812124615, I have dormer windows so no room for curtains. I have dark wooden Venetian blinds as the windows are the dark pvc.
I dare you to go dark for the walls. I have another bedroom in Stiffkey Blue which is gorgeous, day and night.
Of course, if you prefer a pale colour, do that. I tried it in my bedroom and hated it but we are all different.

Thanks Fiona Millar. Those are lovely colours. I think I'm gonna go for it! My room has got a high ceiling, 3 windows, white furniture and a light grey wardrobe along one wall.... I think it can take a darker colour on the walls. My friend has suggested oval office blue F&B paint and she has some I can test on lining paper so that will help. Although I'm not sure we will get F&B but I hear colour matching is pretty good?

If you are choosing an F&B colour I would buy their paint - colour matching never seems to produce the same effect. Also makes sure you look at the colour in both natural and artificial light and in different parts of the room- it can make a huge difference! Good luck

I would use neutral blackout blinds and drape sheers or muslin single curtains on each window with picot edging coloured in blues and greys , the curtains would have tie backs , anthro style draping the curtains opposite each other not all facing the same way ! Love the bed linen a huge oil painting behind of spring flowers would look amazing too !

I'm about to hit buy on the roman blinds in elodie dove grey from blinds2go. But I had a moment this morning where I realised that the windows in our room aren't very tall so if I go for recess fitting I will lose quite a bit of light and view. Which means I need exact fitting. Lots of reading about roman blinds I see people say roman blinds are better in the recess?

I have lots of Roman blinds and they are outside the recess. There’s absolutely no problem and it means you can fit them a bit above the top of the window, which actually has the effect of making your window look taller than it is, and as you say means you don’t lose the light. Have tried to attach a photo, hope you can see this ok as it’s really sunny today so difficult to get a clear picture of the blind. I had all my blinds made locally by a lovely lady, using fabrics I’d bought online.
Just make sure you measure carefully!

Going off the blind website advice I've gone for measure window and 5cm extra each side for overlap and 7cm extra for drop. In your experience does that seem about right?

One more question.... When you fitted your blinds did you have them fitted to the wall or a wooden strip? We have a wooden strip running across the full width of the window! Over hanging, I my opinion, too far. I'm wondering if that needs to be removed first or do I attach the blind to it and just shorten it?

Hi, I got my bedroom Roman blinds from Blinds 2 Go and am very pleased with quality and service. They come with a header at the top so you may need to remove your wooden strip to ensure a flush finish. I think outside the recess is better for bedroom blinds as it prevents any slithers of light entering the room.

Yes, it was spot on. Here are a couple of pics - 2 different windows. I went for light filtering backing rather than blackout, so you can see on the second pic the light filtering through (it’s sunny today but usually the shadow of the winDow isn’t there).

I feel your pain! I ordered some made to measure curtains from Laura Ashley and as they don’t come and measure we had to do it ourselves. We measured about 20 times! When they arrived they were perfect. Phew!

Not just me then! My husband thinks I've lost it! He's just back from work and the first thing I said was "can we measure again tonight?!" 😩😂

😂Yes, we measured several times too! Mine is Ahisma Luxe Faux Silk Mink Roman Blind. An interior designer advised me to get blinds that touched the ceiling as there are 3 windows in the room it looks more uniform. She was right so glad I listened to her advice. Good luck!!
