Hello Lisamarie1000, Yes I get the idea.... The simplest way to tackle this is to add another length of wood like the banister underneath.. So it's double.. Or do as I mentioned earlier and build up the side.. I am not sure about the glass... .. You could create a dado and paint up the stairs... Period marries fabulously with more industrial items in the kitchen, picking up what you have said about your kitchen, and things don't necessarily need to match, but they do need to feel coherent.. I would try to tease out more of the thirties element, which is really modern and rather fabulous.. Simple panelling and a brass rail. With a stair runner in your chosen carpet could be lovely... It will look current and work with the rest of the house... The height you can decide upon to suit.. (it's not the same staircase but it gives you the idea... : ))

Hi, I love that you've made a brave colour choice for the ceiling, looks fab. When you've got all your furnishings and accessories in it should pull the whole scheme together. Personally I'd be tempted to bring in more blue by painting behind the shelves in the alcoves, just think the colour will show off any objects better. And I agree with the previous comment, don't paint the fireplace. I actually like the black, it helps to ground the space. If you don't want to stick with the green tiles you could make some simple panels that just slot over the top of the existing ones. Some tiles on plywood for example, in burnt orange/ copper colours to match your painting.

Hi Jo, the windows are on the first floor and not in a loft, looking out onto flat roof, I would like to walk out of the window and onto the flat roof but for safety reasons will need a rail preferably glass so we have a view. I need something fixed so children don't fall out but something that has a latch that I can use to clean the roof light etc...

Hi Daniel, what a great space! Looks like it's coming along nicely. Were you planning to do the panelling yourself or get a joiner in to complete this? Because the walls are different heights and widths it will just be a case of trying to cut it off at the best point, or only panelling up to a certain height to level out the difference. You could also leave a deliberate non-panelled border? If you're not 100% set on the panelling, what about using one alcove for a picture gallery and the other with simple floating shelves. Both make great use of the space (offering more storage with the shelves) and by using them for different things it hides the asymmetry. When they get used for the same purpose or have the same décor (such as the panelling) because they're different shapes, the comparison highlights the differences. Hope that's of some use!
