need help with wall mirror and sconces placement
Comments (3)Nicky here from Man About The House - ( Hugh's long suffering wife ). I have OCD especially when it comes to sizes and placements, so for some it might not matter, but i like symmetry in bucket loads. If I were purchasing a mirror i'd go 5' to 5'6 leaving 6-9 inches either side of the mirror to the end of the couch. ( i prefer the 5' ). Then you can double or triple the distance from the mirror to the wall sconce. ( So i'd have a 5ft mirror leaving 9 inches to the end of the sofa, then 18 inches from the sofa to each sconce ). I think when you place them on the wall, you'll know what looks right for you, afterall, everyone's different....See MoreHelp needed please for living room makeover
Comments (10)I think you can definitely go for dark walls. I had an East facing sitting room and painted it navy. It was still surprisingly very sunny in the morning and cosy. The only thing to keep in mind that you'll need to a good lighting design scheme to have enough light later in the day and to be able to create the right mood. In terms of furniture layout, it'd be good to draw it and see what can be done. The positioning of the sofas seems less than ideal for sitting on them in a group and chatting as it looks almost like 2 separate spaces. You could also add some storage for toys and grown up bits....See MoreDownlight help needed
Comments (3)If you can't decide then why not just have a couple pendants and couple lamps? We don't ever use our overhead ceiling lights in our living room as we prefer softer lighting, and I don't have any spotlights/downlights apart from in the bathroom...See Morelarge lounge diner need help me with fire and tv placement please!
Comments (18)It's further than I thought. My concern was the stepped in wall and also the opening to the dining area but as it's further up than I thought the ".entrance" should be fine. You would however be left with an alcove between new and old fire. I wonder what shelves would look like there (I couldn't find an exact pic) or just box it in.. Tadelakt is similar to polished concrete, polished plaster, microcement etc, you could look at any of them just to add a bit of texture/warmth. You could always pay someone to do a CAD design in your room if this is your preferred option? Having said that if you frequently have large parties maybe it's not a great idea to have a fixed structure there? Maybe a tv and fire side by side is a better option? Will see if I can find a pic...See More- 5 years ago
