Its a lovely kitchen - very neutral so you could introduce any colours in the open area.

You mention about painting walls - there are no walls in the pic really so I guess you mean in the open area? Can you give us pics of this other area?

Green plants go great with this look and green could be a great accent colour - does it open to any garden area too?

This is the lounge, white walls and (annoyingly) dark window/door frames!

With my steel grey sofa I was thinking of adding dark yellow and slate cushions, I've also got a pine and white table and chairs set, I think that should go!

This lounge is bigger than I've made it look, the whole dining and kitchen area is behind me. I was thinking of painting the 'TV wall' a teal/grey so that it accents the sofa and means I can add yellow/orange/white around the place

With your sofa colour and cushions it will still look very grey/wood but just an addition of plants will lift it.

The window frame colours are great - goes really well with the kitchen and will go well with your sofa colour too!

Congratulations on the new home, when do you move in? We need to see pics when you've got your furniture in.

I wouldnt do any painting til all your furniture is in, then see how you feel.

This is the sofa I'm thinking of.. I didn't want to go for a big leather one as I feel it wouldn't fit with the style, or a 'smarter' leather sofa looked too out of place. I feel like this industrial/nordic/scandi style goes well!

I like the sofa but I wouldn't personally choose that colour. The reason being that contrary to what people think. it can be quite restricting when it comes to other colours. Caroline's cognac coloured chair above give lots of options for colours, it also goes with the floor. looks great with the charcoal and would go with deep blues and stone colours. A cool grey will clash with many other neutrals so I would keep that option open if possible. Sorry in advance if you have already ordered it.

I did see that one but I think the colour is too pale and too much like the floor, so I thought the grey one would stand out better, particularly with a nice rug under It and a well matched coffee table!

Just because you have a grey and white kitchen it doesn’t mean you can’t add colour. I LOVE a tan leather sofa! They are stylish and will add warmth. Will fit nicely into the Scandi theme too. If tan leather is a step too far, then a grey sofa will do and can be jazzed up with cushions. Then you can add a rush rug and some artwork. So many people come onto Houzz asking how to warm up a grey room/kitchen.

I agree.. I was thinking the yellow/amber vibe with blacks and slate grey/black for the cushions. Need to find a nice coffee table now! I like something like this but will have to find one a little darker

I don't dislike the grey sofa, it's a lovely shape. I just know that greys can present their own difficulties when it comes to schemes. The kitchen tiles look pure white, as does the worktop so it would be a challenge to introduce warmth in the walls without it clashing. Thats why I thought a warmer sofa might work better.

I think you have such a neutral palate to start with you can go in pretty much any direction and should choose one big patterned thing and then use it for your colour inspiration. Find some art you love or a rug and use it for the starting point for colours.

For what it's worth I agree with Jonathan. Your palette is neutral and can be jazzed up with any colours really. Which of course makes it harder as there's so much choice ! He's put that great idea forward of finding a patterned item you love as a starting point and then picking a colour/colours from there. I think that would definitely help. I planned my eventual lounge colour scheme around a large painting I'd bought in Vietnam .... lol

In my experience modern plaster is ok to paint straight away. You might want to water down the first coat although not essential, but it does make the next coat go on smoothly. Recommend using a roller to get the best finish (cut in using a brush).

I like Carolina‘s suggestion of earth tones. Check out Studio McGee - American based interior decorator. She does interiors in a restricted palette.

I like your grey sofa choice, and lovely flat!! Also moved into a new house which is very white and grey. Sofa is grey and we are jazzing up with splashes of bright orange, navy blue and also green plants like others said has really made a difference. We will replace the sofa at some point maybe with grey or tan leather.
