Comments (5)Rather than spending lots of money on expensive paint, you could always buy some good quality original art at an affordable price which can then move with you if you ever do decide to move. Comments (11)Hi there, It's a lovely space and I am sure there are lots of options as mentioned already by Karen above. How would you like to use the island? Is it more for the aesthetic or do you want it for people to sit / perch at? Islands tend to lose a lot of storage if you want people to be able to sit at them, which necessitates the need for more wall cabinets etc but if you can use the 'back side' for more occasional items then the wall restrictions may be less of an issue. What sort of style are you thinking of going for? Open shelves can look fabulous and a great way of storing items that are used day in, day out. They can also be very budget friendly in comparison to wall cabinets. Have you considered banquette seating for the table, opposed to using all chairs? Comments (37)Fiza, if you are going to rent out your home I wouldn’t fit an expensive kitchen unless your home is a large luxury home. After all tenants may not care for it the way you would. My kitchen is a 12 year old Wrens kitchen. It was fitted by my brother as Wrens didn’t do installations at that time. It’s okay, just that. Nothing special. It cost £5500 including appliances, worktop, sink etc. My sister recently had a new, fantastic quality German kitchen installed. Can’t remember the brand or the price (the quartz worktops cost £5000 alone). The difference is incredible and I think anyone will be able to see the difference immediately. Next time I will use an independent kitchen company as I have learnt they cater to all budgets, not just high end. I would like to add that Daisy has been a member of Houzz for many years and her advice has been invaluable. She has never advertised her business or pushed people to use it on this forum. The only time she does so is if members ask for her details and then she messages them privately. We get lots of spammers on Houzz, but Daisy isn’t one of them....See More- 5 years ago
5 years agoDo you have a floor plan of downstairs?
Where does the corridor outside the kitchen go? Could you also knock out the radiator wall to make that corridor part of the kitchen?
If you remove the pantry door and have full height cabinets build in front of it you could make use of the dead space and use the whole wall.

Based on your original floorplan (above) I'd get rid of the rear porch and larder altogether, to get some light into the kitchen and create a L shape kitchen in that corner. Maybe down the line install a full length window where the original kitchen window, maybe plonk a breakfast bar and a couple of high stools or even just a window seat. Open up the wall to dining room.
