Is painting UPVC window frames a bad idea?
Comments (6)I know this thread is slightly old now, but I've just used Bedec msp paint on the outside of my upvc porch and it's amazing stuff! Would highly recommend (took me years to pluck up the courage to try it) I spoke to the company's rep and got advice on what to use. Clean with an anti-fungal cleaner (NOT sugar soap as that leaves a residue) let dry. Scour with a green scoured pad OR a v v fine sandpaper which is only to take off the sheen and not to scratch the plastic. Wipe clean with water and let dry. Apply the paint with a brush not too thickly or thinly. Wait to dry 2-6 hours then repaint. Takes one month to cure. My experience - I did black over brown and 2 coats was fine. I found all the brushes I tried (not real hair ones) did leave some marks but I think that's due to the paint. Don't go over it too much in one spot. It's quite thick - plasticed when it dries so work quickly. Less of an issue inside when the sun isn't heating it up of course. Water based so cleans up easily and good range of colours. No primer required so v speedy job! I debated whether to try this or the bullseye 123 primer etc but I'm glad I went for this as it was a lot less work and it looks brilliant....See MoreSmall dwelling with too many doors and bad "flow"!
Comments (16)Do you need two bedrooms?...... you could make bedroom 2 into a super dressing room, with access from bedroom 1 you could fit it out with ceiling high units on either side this would give you loads of storage and would also remove the entry door. Also reduce the bathroom to a toilet only (always need two toilets) this would give you a bigger kitchen, then block the door into the lounge, this will also give you a better room for furniture placement in there. Good luck, it’s not easy to downsize, just done it myself and we have to remember it’s for out use for most of the time.....this means no bedroom for our Grandchildren, but the love sleeping on the sofas....See MoreDouble Story Extension - any one else starting a project soon?
Comments (74)Wow that looks beautiful, I am jealous of the brick. We wanted a very similar colour brick but the council wouldn’t allow and I didn’t want the red brick so we went with blocks and hopefully crisp render. We started our build towards end of Jan. Double extension, the foundations laid and then had the structural engineer out and final final details drawn up. The ground floor blocks have been laid and the scaffold has gone up so don’t know how long that will take. Our builders seem on track and have said August finish but I think it will be September/October Tani how many bedrooms did you have built and how many rooms downstairs? Also from start date to now what has the time scale been? Xx...See MoreDouble Garage Conversion
Comments (36)I think that by the end of this week we'll finally be completed !!!! We had the carpenters around yesterday to fit the skirting boards and put in a nice hardwood threshold and to fit door architraves etc. Sometime this week we should have the painters back to put a 3rd coat on the walls & ceiling, paint the skirtings & doors (F&B Worsted like the rest of the house) Then before the end of the week the builders are back just to finish the little things (the wire for the radiator needs to look better, either trunking or clipped neatly to the wall and painted) etc. We did the standard ceremonial trip to IKEA over the weekend and got the cabinets, blinds, shelves, picture frames etc (plus the obvious 150 tea-light candles that will never get used) It's within touching distance. I phoned the landscape people yesterday and given them 2 weeks notice to start their work as they need to hire a massive sump grinder as the one they have isn't big enough, and give them time to prep. now that the skip and builder have tidied everything up....See More- 5 years ago
