The first thing you need to do is create storage. If you change your pedestal sink for a vanity, there would be storage below for bottles and jars. Also, you have some space at the end of your shower. Have your local joiner make a shallow, tall cupboard right down to the tub to make it look built in. Finish it in an exterior paint to take the moisture from the shower. There are specialist paints for tiles. Forget B & Q. Go to your local decorators' merchants for advice and good quality paints. If the quantity of mirror is not to your taste, remove the one to the left of the toilet, however the wall would be recessed from the front of the tiles below and the only way to repair that would be to tile with the same size tiles, then paint them as well. Better to leave the mirror until you've done the tile painting. A glass shower screen, replacing the curtain, will make the room seem larger. Painting the tiles white would make the room clean and fresh and neutral. I'd leave the floor as is. Wood is warm visually and underfoot. Using some natural baskets for waste and for a planter would link to the floor. Warm the room up with brightly coloured towels and bathmat. Put up some colourful prints using double sided tape to stick to the tiles and the mirror.

Thanks to all who offered advice. The samples arrived and the space invader fabric was our favourite. None of the cube patterns were quite right. Do you think i could skip lining fabric since it is already so thick? I think it might be too bulky for a blind with lining too. The other thing I wanted is some general styling advice. I don't know whether I'm going to be able to pull off the look I was originally going for and i keep getting sidetracked by other things I also like. My original idea was a contemporary classic kitchen with a bit of an edge. So we have light grey shaker doors on bottom, then handleless white slab on top. Flooring probably wood effect herringbone vinyl. Walls will be off white and backsplash behind job will be very pale neutral zellige tiles. Handles will be more industrial style, I like quite a few from dowsing & Reynolds, probably in bronze so quite dark. Then there will be a built in bench with dark blue cushion on the seat and across the back. Table I would like something mid or dark wood and contemporary but I've also liked mid century style ones I've seen. And chairs are undecided but maybe black. Worktops are marble effect Quartz (white with grey veining) and an upstand and sink is undermount stainless steel. I have already bought pendants for above the dining table, they are patterned glass with a black ceiling cord. I can't tell whether I'm going to be able to make this work or just end up with an odd collection of styles which don't quite work and feel disappointed with it.

Hi all guess what the bathroom still isn't finished but I put some accessories in it and it is already looking quite different. The photo doesn't do it justice it looks better in real life. It looks quite pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately I have bigger problems than how it looks. Do any plumbers know if this shower is access compliant? It has no cut-out or thermostat. You have to control the shower with the bath taps so there is a high risk of scalding. Considering this is a specialist company for mobility I find this pretty shocking. You can't shut off the water other than the taps. Also the temperature fluctuates as there is no thermostat. This is the pipework and electrics below does anyone know if this is legal? See how near the pipes are to the cables??? It seems a bit precarious to me. I am worried about the cables getting hot or wet. Thanks everyone for your support and wish you all a Happy Christmas.

I'm nearly afraid to post photos, but here goes! Thanks to you all who commented, and who gave me the courage to make a few changes to the cloakroom. I took it on board, so pipes got painted, and the wee white unit adequately covers the pipe beside the cistern - I was limited to a small size as anything larger would make it difficult to flush the toilet. Suggestions for lightfitting, towels, pictures, plants etc and anything else are very much appreciated, and thanks for taking the time out to comment and do the research for me.
