Personally I don’t think it’s open plan with a tall bank dividing the space….. if you were really going for open plan you should consider putting the tall units where the current sink window is and then two islands -one for the sink and one for the hob.

What you have built so far is a kitchen diner and a separate lounge with openings between them…… assuming you don’t mind having two separate rooms rather than the open plan space you said you wanted then I would block up both sides of the tall bank as those openings don’t connect you with the living space because of where they are.

How about if I did something like this and had it open to the hall no wall between living room, hall and kitchen and hall?

If you like open spaces you should go for it! you have a beautiful space and you can play around with floor plan options to suit your needs!

I’m not sure if you gain anything by opening the kitchen to the hall plus you create a concern about escape from upstairs bedrooms in the event of a fire.

I think you need more plans of the room and renderings as it’s not clear, to me at least, how the rest of the room will be organised.

I don’t like the short run under the window in 1 as it feels orphaned. The second rout around the tall units would make it feel more open plan but may not be too useful.

I’d consider looking at joining up the wall and tall units as per 2 but keeping an island rather than peninsular subject to space and how the flow will feel… I rather closing gaps off than have misaligned units or tight passages that makes the whole place feel wrong

I think that you are trying really hard for this space to be open plan but it’s not because the living room is separated from the kitchen by tall units. Since the connection between the living space and the kitchen is limited I think you should consider if more wall and more tall storage is more important than having to go through the hall to get to the lounge.

You might also consider how much the dining table gets used and whether it might suit you to put the living space where the dining table is currently planned.

Separately I think your kitchen plan needs more work because the island now intrudes beyond the side windows and this now limits the space available for the table. Furthermore it seems like you have insufficient drawers and no wall cabinets which poses a problem of where to store glassware and everything to make tea and coffee. I think the two door finishes needs more thought and it’s an odd choice to have an open wine rack on such a contemporary kitchen.

I think it needs to be 2 separate rooms now but due to the stairs it will need to be one door for both. The door will come into the kitchen / living room in from of the tall units see.

As to high

cupboard I could put one next to the tall units on the left hand side.

The space that the table in in is about 3.6 x 5.5
