Help - lounge layout!

We will be moving house in a couple of months.

The lounge has 2 sets of double doors and a bay window but we are really struggling to plan where to put the furniture! We need to buy new furniture and we ideally want a sofa and maybe a snuggle seat/armchair. We are also thinking of having some kind of media wall.

Does anyone have any ideas how we could layout the room? We are also wondering if blinds or curtains would be better in the bay window?

Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Best of luck with the move. My sitting room is like yours except it has a single door from the hall.
I positioned my sofa against the wall to the right of the door from the hall and put a single arm chair at an angle in the corner between the double doors to dining room and end of sofa. I placed a 'Mother and baby' lamp in this corner too.In bay window I have a 2 seater. To the right of it, as you sit on it, I have a nest of tables with a table lamp on top. To the left of it, I have a TV in the corner. I have a piano on the wall to the right ,as you walk from the dining room through the double doors into sitting room. There is a table lamp on the top of the piano on it's rh side. Midway along that wall, my focal point is an 'inset' stove. Above piano on the wall, I have a 'bar' type downlighter to show off a painting, also one v.symetrically on the other side of the hearth. You don't seem to have a hearth, but I think this would be the best wall for you to place a focal feature. This works well for me as the 'balance ' is right for me, but it takes a while being in a house before you can really decide some things. The entry of natural light will be a big factor in determining where a lot of items will be placed. Happy moving and enjoy the buzz of it all.x

P.S. I put up blinds only. I have 3 rectangular windows, so 3 blinds. They're quite a heavy creamy blind with flecks on them. They let lots of light in in the summer even when pulled to keep out heat of sun. I couldn't be bothered getting curtains as they'd get dusty and dirty from the coal, turf and wood dust from when I'm cleaning out the stove.

Sneaky thing, not sharing the rug with us! But you're right, the colours are v difficult; the pink is wrong -- if it were terracotta I think it'd be great. The fireplace space: of course, if you have a millionaire to schmooze, a great piece of sculpture. My go-to instead of sculpture is tree branches, from the year's winter pruning. Not funny sticky things bought from a shop, something you find that you think is a beautiful shape, art from nature just as it is. In a floor vase with a narrow neck. Can you get out into the country, or a big park, at pruning time? A real branch can last pretty well forever, you don't need to do it every year.

What a lovely space to work with! I also like your colors and your furniture. My suggestion would be to divide your dining and living room space by using a black,( antique or distressed finish) to tie in the rough brick in your living room)) low and narrow wooden bench with chunky legs behind your sofa. I would place 3 large containers to hold tall and yellowish-green plants on top, such as tall grasses and lower-growing grasses; straight -growing plants. The plant containers might include one outstanding tall tubular container, one large but lower bowl-like container, and one smaller but quirkily-shaped container with a vine-like plant. I see your containers varying from charcoal to black , clear glass, and colored glass. That's one thought for the elements to put on the bench. The other thought is a very modern arcing desk-top-style light so that you could have light to read over the sofa. Then, you could add plants and their containers accordingly.

I think shortening the lounge is a great idea. Could the new kitchen door go through the cupboard in the hall next to the shower room? This would make the new wall nicely balanced with the window in the new dining room. I haven't had long to look at it, but that is a tricky lounge. A decent size but an awkward shape. What would really help is knowing the measurements of each and every wall in that lounge. Moving walls and doors can be expensive and you should always consult a structural engineer. By moving the doors and walls, even though it makes the room technically smaller, it'll feel more useable. I moved the kitchen door to the corner, which frees up a bit of wall space to hang the TV. You would need to move some kitchen units, so I've put them against the stairs. You could fit more here anyway. I've moved the hallway door in a bit to square the room. I don't suppose you really NEED to do this, but it will make the room a more standard shape and make better use of the hall storage. Either of the layouts I can think of would equally work with the door where it is though. Sorry I haven't got the software or the time to draw the layouts but hopefully you can get the idea. The two layouts that spring to mind are 1) an L-shaped sofa in the window corner, with a single elsewhere (where the measurements were maybe?) You might fit a small desk by the double doors. OR 2) an L-shaped sofa partly under the stairs overhang, with the TV on the long wall opposite where it is in the photos. You could maybe put a single seat beside the double doors, and a desk in the corner near the window. Without moving walls, I'd maybe put an L sofa in the window corner and a single in the corner by the double doors. You might fit a small desk (110mm?) under the stairs. As I said though, if you could measure every wall, that would help get a better understanding of what could go where.
