Front door colour help!
Hi, I’m struggling to choose a front door colour. It was previously white pvc. We’ve had a new frame made and reclaimed glass added, and will take away the outer frame once it’s painted/door furniture added. I love the colour of the wooden frame, and the pale ginger colour in the glass. I know it’s not traditional but could a terracotta/ginger/clay (colour work? Or should I go with a blue? Thanks!

4 years agoI think a sage green would look fab. First photo is Pigeon by Farrow & Ball which is actually darker than this photo although this show an indoor shot! otherwise a mid blue would look lovely.

I am also painting my front door and have found that the colour I like in the shop is not the colour that dries on the door... Light levels seems to send it several shades lighter than the intended... Get a sample pot and do a test first! I think your suggestion of a stone colour for the render and a green blue for the doors would look lovely, and I love the idea of it relating to the greenery in the garden. Do you have any suggestions for a stone colour? I have looked at F&B for the green/blue, they have a paint actually named green/blue, but I am not sure if this is too much of a literal interpretation of your advice :-) I also like the oval room blue too, do you think this could work? I love Stiffkey blue, but not sure if this is too rich/deep a colour and would end up looking dark? The front of the house faces north but still gets lots of great light, the house is elevated somewhat so it is never in shadow if that makes any difference to our choice of colour?...See MoreColour help with new wooden windows/door on front of house
Comments (2)I would not combine a white or off white render with white windows. One makes the other look 'off' as they don't match. I think you can combine with any shade of grey and have a different colour front door. You can also, go outside the 'Grey' box that we're all in currently. Buff, or any neutral colour will look nice with a white render. Usually I would also say that the window colour is dictated to predominantly by the roof colour, as grey with a red roof tile, doesn't look nice. Grey with grey roof tiles is lovely for instance. Comments (12)Ah ok, that makes complete sense. I don't think I would move the door to around the corner but I would consider removing some of the block paving where it meets the house and replacing some of it with gravel and planting. This would give you the opportunity to use some nifty planting to correct the proportions of the front door area. Some architectural planting where the walls meet the block paving would make a massive difference and also the area under the window to the right. The pigeon green is fab but if you cannot do that, how about a navy blue Colourtrend inkpot blue or f&b Hague Blue or I think f&b st Giles blue.
