Help with a garden wall
Comments (4)If you have a few bricks lying around I would test it first, mine had a bit more texture than yours so it was easy to get a dappled brick effect with the different colours. The other thing is, it may age when you have plants over it. Or you could try the live yoghurt trick or tea or coffee staining may work! I think you should probably have a practice run anyway! I don't think the wall is that bad anyway and once you add the plants you'll hardly see any of it. Can you also add potted plants? You could also try adding metal wires all the way across the wall and training plants all the way across. We did that with our old back fence as it didn't belong to us and wasn't particularly attractive....See MoreGarden design
Comments (8)Hi, Since your garden is quite long and narrow, I think it would be nice to add some horizontal lines. So you could do something like this: add a raised border just behind the existing patio (redo that one) and along the fence, then behind that first raised border have another patio (either decking or gravel) and let that material run the width of the garden, cutting through the long path, and behind that patio another raised border. Just in front of the shed you could do another narrow stretch of the material you used for the extra patio, again running the width of the garden. You'll only need a small tree to block the view. Clematis would cover the trellis and give you pretty flowers. I think this will be easy maintenance. If you prefer you could have grass instead of the second patio. I would then have that running the width of the garden and do stepping stones where the path now is. (Ignore the size and direction of the decking, it's just to illustrate what I mean)...See MoreBrick wall around fireplace. Shall i paint it white or leave it brick?
Comments (6)being a big fan of all things rustic , I would say not only leave brick but go 1 step more and make that brick wall as bold as it can be. bring back it's original brown appeal or even paint it that rustic bold brown that any brick decor deserves. that said, some pics wouldve helped a lot here because sometimes going old isn't always the best option hah...See MoreHow can I make my garden wall more attractive and less oppressive?
Comments (27)Yes you could put mirror in front. It might be a bit disconcerting to catch sight of yourself when you look out? Clematis montana is great when is in flower but doesnt do much for the reast of the year, it can get huge and after a few years the stems will be very woody and not very attractive, so I would suggest planting it a way away from the wall so it doesnt take over. Could you post close up pics of the plants above the wall and the planting area?...See MoreUser
