You certainly have the height to carry such a look but I wonder whether you would lose the definition in some of that beautiful cornice? I like ceilings painted the same colour as the walls. I considered one shade lighter (ie ammonite) to have a slight contrast. You could also paint the cornice white and the ceiling cornforth but I think that is a more traditional look. On balance my favourite would be the cornice and ceiling painted one shade lighter. What have you done in the rest of the house with the ceilings?

HI LOUISA- I RECENTLY FACED A SIMILAR DILEMMA REGARDING GREYS AND CONTINUITY THROUGH THE HOUSE. I GOT LOTS OF TESTER POTS, SPENT A LOT, ALMOST GAVE UP THEN WHAM, I WAS IN A WILKO STORE AND SAW THEY SOLD PAINT, SO I GOT SOME TESTER POTS, WENT HOME AND TRIED THEM OUT, FELL IN LOVE WITH A COLOUR CALLED BIRCH WHITE-WILKO BEST SUPERIOR FLAT MATT EMULSION,ITS CHALKY LIKE FARROW AND BALL, SHOCKED AT THE QUALITY AND PRICE AT £15 FOR 2.5L ITS LIKE A SILVERY DOVE GREY, ITS VERY ETHEREAL, WHOLE FAMILY LOVES IT, HUSBAND IS VERY PLEASED AS I USUALLY DECORATE WITH FARROW AND BALL OR FIRED EARTH. I HAVE SEEN A PAINT FOR THE WOODWORK CALLED FRENCH GREY PALE BY LITTLE GREEN WHICH IS A GOOD MATCH. I DO GO ON A BIT, BUT MY POINT IS SHOP AROUND TILL YOUR REALLY 110% HAPPY.

I have chosen the leaf wallpaper for one wall. then will probably go with badly haze for the other walls or maybe get a slightly lighter colour. it's hard to see but the two larger wood samples below the paper. ignore the smaller of the three too dark. I could paint the skirts and the frames around the door and built in cupboards the green or do the skirts the pale tallow colour and then just the frame and doors of cupboard in the green? also what are peoples thoughts on painted picture rails? it's not currently up, the ceiling is going to be white. should I paint the picture rail green or the tallow or white?

Thank you, I tend to agree. Unfortunately the photo of the front of the house has not uploaded - the front is red brick and the aspect that I really would like suggestions for. Will perhaps try adding a new post. Best wishes, Trish
