Should I paint the woodwork the same colour as the walls?
Comments (3)Colour is always a very personal matter - to express my own opinion, however, I would opt for white (or just off white) for architraves, skirtings, coving ceiling and any picture/dado rails every time. This will, "frame" your wall and make the chosen wall colour really stand out. Wrt the doors - I think you have more options here. A matching white will still look great; picking your original light grey or, eve, a darker shade could also work (difficult to know without seeing the grey!), but care should be taken. White would still be the safest option (and is a classic - see below), but is not the only route. As another idea - if your doors are panel doors, you could think of going two tone with white and grey to just accentuate the shapes of the frames, but you would need a delicate touch to get the look right...See MoreColour of woodwork
Comments (13)Thanks Mazur. The pics are very helpful but still leave me undecided - perhaps both options have equal pros and cons...or I'm just bad at decision making :). The ceiling and wall are joined by a curve so would not work to paint the black further up although I like the idea. @minnie101 that is definitely the most practical approach with where i have accidentally ended up! I have ordered a black column radiator. Unfortunately the management company is adamant that wooden floors aren't allowed, no matter how good sound proofing is these days so has to be carpet :(. Thanks re the chair beds - they are the same burnt orange as in the blinds so hopefully will look quite dramatic....See MoreAll the same grey? Walls, woodwork, doors throughout the house?
Comments (13)HI LOUISA- I RECENTLY FACED A SIMILAR DILEMMA REGARDING GREYS AND CONTINUITY THROUGH THE HOUSE. I GOT LOTS OF TESTER POTS, SPENT A LOT, ALMOST GAVE UP THEN WHAM, I WAS IN A WILKO STORE AND SAW THEY SOLD PAINT, SO I GOT SOME TESTER POTS, WENT HOME AND TRIED THEM OUT, FELL IN LOVE WITH A COLOUR CALLED BIRCH WHITE-WILKO BEST SUPERIOR FLAT MATT EMULSION,ITS CHALKY LIKE FARROW AND BALL, SHOCKED AT THE QUALITY AND PRICE AT £15 FOR 2.5L ITS LIKE A SILVERY DOVE GREY, ITS VERY ETHEREAL, WHOLE FAMILY LOVES IT, HUSBAND IS VERY PLEASED AS I USUALLY DECORATE WITH FARROW AND BALL OR FIRED EARTH. I HAVE SEEN A PAINT FOR THE WOODWORK CALLED FRENCH GREY PALE BY LITTLE GREEN WHICH IS A GOOD MATCH. I DO GO ON A BIT, BUT MY POINT IS SHOP AROUND TILL YOUR REALLY 110% HAPPY....See MoreWoodwork colour
Comments (8)Lovely room, and what a fabulous sideboard! I agree that the alcove units would look best painted the same dark blue as the walls - so the shelving is less dominant, and your books and decorative items become the prominent feature. The window and skirtings etc are perfect white; I’d be tempted to also paint the fire surround white for balance....See Morea douglas
