Kitchen Tiling Ideas
I’ve learned during the renovation of my house how much of a philistine I am and how largely uncoordinated I am when it comes to colours. Some advice and guidance from people less lacking in taste would therefore be greatly appreciated.
I have a space between white kitchen counters and navy cabinets (inc splashback) and I’ve no idea what to do. Whether a pattern tile, mixed colours, different coloured grout or one just one colour. The walls are pained ‘school house white’ I have rose tinted copper knobs on the units.
Any ideas greatly appreciated; thanks in advance.

Comments (2)It would depend on the layout of the space as to whether you'd want to lay a diamond. I often like the look of something that is off set or on an angle if the area is running between two different shaped areas. It sounds like it would be if it's a hallway into a kitchen. My only worry would be if the idea of a black taco piece against a light tile might be a bit strong across that sort of area if you're going for a contemporary look. I've attached a tile pattern which can be quite useful. Comments (22)Hi, I agree that trims don't look good. If you opt for a porcelain tile then it is possible to cut a tile and then re polish the cut edge with a stone polishing kit. The same way that they polish the edge on a granite work surface. You can buy a kit from the likes of screw fix, you also need a grinder. This then allows you to have a neat finished edge. Comments (21)Hi Laura, You've received many suggestions and some have been quite good. Particularly useful are the photos above of the French pied a terre with the slim line cabinets on one side. If you need somewhere to eat, you can swap the table and chairs for a bar and stools with slim cabinets either side. And don't worry about losing the panel radiator. Your plumber can install a hydronic plinth heater that connects into your central heating. I think the key to your colour scheme should start with your new cooker. Have you considered beige cabinet doors in high gloss? They would make your range look integrated and help reflect light around the room. Polished black granite (or laminate) worktop will pick up the black trim on the cooker. The arched lower door of the cooker points toward a more traditional or transitional look for a cooker hood (black) or an integrated hood. Beige and black tiles would keep the walls of the working area scrubbable. Look at metro tiles for a high gloss finish or patchwork tiles for some retro designs. Comments (9)My sister in law has beige highly polished floor tiles and she said it was a big mistake. Every crumb, every footprint shows up and she’s always having to hoover and mop the floor. On the other hand my step daughter has wood effect porcelain in a Matt finish and it looks fabulous. She also has underfloor heating with them. I think you do need to bring warmth into the room and a wood effect porcelain tile or LVT would look amazing....See More- 4 years ago
