I think the architect has skillfully fit a huge amount into the ground floor. Was your wish list that big? But if it doesn’t work for you why would you build it? A Concept planner would be a great way to investigate your options. In your position with a young family I might want to have a separate reception room, a bigger utility space, some storage by the front door and I might be prepared to move the stairs lose the downstairs study in favour of one upstairs, and unless you are going to use it don’t give so much space to the downstairs bedroom because it looks like the biggest bedroom in the house.

Hello Karen, WOW what a fantastic project and this open plan space looks incredible. I feel the positioning of the living area and dining area works well and makes complete sense from what you have said about the views etc. My concern is the kitchen as I feel the current position/layout is a bit of an obstruction and to me the space does not flow efficiently and effectively. I would switch the island around so it sits the opposite way and then you could potentially have your hob on the island which will sit in front of the tall units where your ovens and fridge will be. This way the kitchen layout will work a lot better. I have attached a quick sketch below so you can see what I mean. Also this way it will give you more room around your dining table meaning the whole space will flow a lot better. Hi Em, Thought I would add our 2 cents and see if its any help. My first thought for your walls is a friendly light grey like Dulux "Silver Ash" or "Lexicon Half". It's warmer than white, but still bright and modern, making it a perfect companion for your kitchen colors. If you fancy something a bit different, how about a soft greige. Dulux "Dieskau" or Taubmans "Ashen Mist" would give your space an inviting warmth, tying beautifully with your off-white worktop and oak floor. Before you make a final decision, paint a small patch on the wall and check it at different times of day, as the lighting can change how a color looks. Enjoy the rest of your renovation journey!
