Hi really love your kitchen - lovely mix of cool, contemporary clean lines with the dash of colour: fantastic! I can understand your dilemma wrt the dining area. I'd tend to echo many of the previous comments - I would go for a smaller, simpler mirror with a plainer (probably white) frame and then I think there are a few options on table & chairs. White would work well - both for table and chairs - and then I'd jazz it up with some orange cushions and a nice runner or table mats. Really liked the white (Ikea?) chairs proposed by Joanna Zygo here: And the table works too. Alternatively, I like the grey/wood table you proposed (the second one), although I wonder if the style is a little "chunky" - thinner, simpler lines may work best with your very sleek units. While I recognise the "dangers" other have flagged wrt using too much white, I really think it would work here, and would really accentuate the inspired use of the orange highlights. As it currently stands, with the mirror and chrome table/chairs, I don't really get the full impact of those gorgeous orange lampshades - and they should be the stars of the show!

Hello Amanda, : )) Do you mean in the kitchen? Yes a nice idea. I like flat plate too, but really plain. Well the best way to describe how I feel about certain alterations is to tell you about someone I knew who "did up" her flat to such a degree that she literally took away all that was characterful about it.. Sometimes it's best to leave things as their patina develops over time and results in something quite special. Restoration is one thing but you can also restore the life out of something and thus diminish in certain contexts the value- and so it's good to know when to stop.. So yes, I'm firmly in the camp suggesting leave them, but of course it's entirely your choice. : ))

It is an advice forum and asking on her behalf is thoughtful and sensible. I think it hasn't helped having so much advice on what to change when you'd started by saying that your daughter doesn't want to paint the doors, retile or change the counter tops. Not everyone reads everything it seems. In my view, it's impossible to decide until your daughter has moved in and seen how her own accessories fit or don't fit and then make a judgement. The things that bother me are the stark white walls and the colour of the floor - neither does justice to the funky black or the orangey pine. A warmer paint colour - or an interesting wallpaper - could make a huge difference. Although rugs can be a nuisance in a kitchen - they move around, are trip hazards, and can get mucky - throwing something down on top of the floor might help to give her ideas. If the owners are taking away the washing machine and dishwasher, replacing them with stainless steel would immediately tone in better or, if the doors are still made, integrating new appliances (as someone else has suggested) would also make a difference. If there were more of a match between the colours in the room ... there might well be scope for adding some teal or turquoise accessories. There's also scope for hanging a huge painting/print/poster, or several, on the wall above that radiator (the existing picture is far too small and the wrong shape - landscape would be better). Good luck to your daughter - I think she can make modest changes to the walls and floor that will turn it into a lovely kitchen.

I can't really choose either as I much prefer the brushed metal than the chrome and would choose that - but if the other one is more comfy.... I had some black padded ones like the ones in your images (not quite as nice!) typical gas lift faux leather on a chrome base. Very comfy as lots of padding but the faux leather ones were super cheap - maybe £55 for a pair, haha. The chrome was awful and showed every bit of muck and dust and it rusted constantly. They ideally need sealing over with chrome to protect them. The faux pvc to me (even though I actually work with leather!) worked well as they were always getting grubby (especially when the nephews visited and put their dirty hands all over them, haha) and I had to scrub them down a lot so they endured quite a bit over the years I had them. The leather on the stools I imagine is similar to an upholstery leather so it will possibly look the same and not have that real leather feel to it (like some of the leather industrial style stools you find) and although I would always choose leather over pvc, if the seats are housing children then you might want to perhaps look at the cheaper end to start with to see how they get on with them. My nephews would spin on them, go up and down on them constantly, knock them over (rolls eyes) and needless to say, the gas lift started to fail on some of them.
