Flooring Threshold help

Hi all

So we are at loggerheads a little with our flooring company.

They installed flooring throughout our downstairs, but at the time we didn’t know our living room plans. Now we want the same herringbone flooring throughout but there is a problem. There is a door frame that is preventing a “flow” from hallway to living room.

A carpenter we use said it’s possible to cut around the door frame and remove the threshold, keeping the frame in place.

The flooring company say the whole frame needs to come out.

Has anyone got any ideas/suggestions? The flooring is all paid for so we must use them, but annoyed we sent them all photos explaining what was needed and they turn up today and then say they can’t do the job.

What needs to be done is for part of the frame at the bottom to be cut away to allow for the flooring to fit under it. My husband has done it in a few houses when laying laminate and used a reciprocating saw to cut the frame. There is no need for the whole frame to come out. I think the reason the flooring company won't want it done that way is that it may be quite difficult and sometimes time consuming to cut out and to slide the flooring under the frame especially if it needs to interlock with other pieces. If you tell them you want it that way and offer to pay for the extra time it will take to do then perhaps they will agree?

I don't think the step is bad thing, it sounds like the flooring inside and the paving outside will end up the same level. However, it would sound like the door was measured incorrectly. ( If everything was fully explained to the operative that came round and did the measuring ) If that is the case, tell the company that you will accept the door, but that you want a discount because it's not what you wanted. You can only try!

E D I love the way that you say what you think, yet without being at all rude, and totally funny....... it's an art form, and I look forward to your comments, they cheer me up. I always worried about what people will think and if i've said the right thing, the wrong thing etc............it can make you a bit anxious and I really wish I could stop doing it. Maybe a New Year's resolution coming?? Omg we have exactly the same dilemma. Camaro click flooring laid 12 months ago, twisted and warped by sunlight... happens even on only slightly warmer days we find the floor raising up in front of patio window.... not to mention the log burner! Waste of £3500 We too are now researching new flooring and LVT seems to be the only option due to kids, pets, water etc etc. We have been advised that previous installer chose the wrong method of application and that stick down with heat tolerant glue should fix our issue. Quotes between 5000/10000 for 80Sqr metre. We are going to reluctantly remove skirting board to allow for expansion

Would something like this do? It is also worth visiting a good quality carpet and flooring shop as they tend to have a good range of thresholds, much better than the diy stores.

Thank you daisy. Our chippy ended up coming over and cutting around the frame which was great!
