Hello,

We've recently started to look into having a new kitchen but we're struggling with the best way to make use of the space. Any suggestions on kitchen layouts would be useful

The utility room is currently a pantry. however, we would like to make this a utility room and would therefore require more cupboard space in the kitchen.

Below is the current layout. Some things to note.

Our dining room table is in the large open space as you enter the room from the hallway
The righthand wall of the kitchen only has 290mm before the patio door so it's potentially difficult to fit units on it.

Overall measurements for

kitchen - 5.52 x 3.64m
Dining room - 2.84 x 3.62m

I’m not sure you’ve got the right size space for an island. I’d go for a peninsula/breakfast bar with matching stools and lights to those in your dining space. 4 Tall units along the side wall in the same colour as the wall behind/above them so they ‘disappear’. Sink & hob at A and B (I have my hob in front of my window, just personal preference, excellent ventilation and I enjoy the view). I’d then get a sofa for the opposite side wall in front of the back doors.

I‘m wondering if its the fridge/ freezer that is causing the problem. if you could incorporate it into your kitchen area, perhaps by incorporating your outside store? if so then i think you could have a sofa against the stair wall and the table and bench seating infront of the understairs cupboard, you might even have space for an armchair in front of the french doors.

Hi Catherine! Potentially you could keep your kitchen layout pretty similar to how it is now - this will be beneficial financially from the perspective of service supplies to sink, cooker, etc... Then you could add an island across the room or a peninsula if you don't mind corner units or don't want to be able to get all the way around an island. I would set it a little back from the door to the hall, so that when you come into the dining kitchen from the hall you have the island to your right and are entering into the dining area of the room. This would be the most sociable and welcoming layout for guests, plus easy and practical to bring in shopping to drop on the island, where it can be put away from... Best wishes with your renovation! Thanks both, they look great.

In terms of splitting the utility to provide room for a pantry/ff, how would you see that looking? Kitchen units or something different?

Built-in FF and a little larder room with matching cabinet doors to the rest of the kitchen.

Check out this Houzz kitchen tour, very good use of space for cabinetry.
