I struggle to keep the white grout in my shower clean, to be honest. Soap and shampoo residue make it go orange in places. I use Viakal which does a reasonable job. I wish I’d chosen slightly darker tiles and grouting to be honest. Maybe next time!

We are having large white tiles, stacked in lines (not brick layout), and floor tiles are a mix of greys so am considering grey grout for both the white tiles and the flooring but I can't visualise it. I need to search for some pictures to reassure myself I'm not making a mistake. I'll post the floor tiles we think we're getting. Nothing special just B&Q. Do you think mid grey grout would go?

You could look at epoxy grout, it isn't porous like a cement grout so virtually stain resistant. It’s a lot more expensive than traditional grout but may be worth discussing with your tiler. I think the white version may have a tendency to yellow over time though

Yes, I think grey grout will work with your floor and wall tiles.

HG grout cleaner spray, can easily find in B and Q. I find I only need use it once or twice a year. I’ve also used a grout pen on some stubborn marks but it’s an old bathroom so a lot of mould stains had to fix when moved in as previous owners hadn’t treated it. Definitely wouldn’t have white on floor tiles though as have seen grout stains alot more in hotels etc than white grout on walls.

Speaking as a professional kitchen designer/installer, I can tell you the the very, very best way to keep white grout with white tiles pristine clean is....

To throw the white grout in the bin and use a different coloured grout.

I want to update the look of the tiles in the bathroom a little - the tiles themselves are still in good condition, but the grout has darkened and looks sloppy. I'm thinking of replacing it and at the same time giving the tiles a good cleaning.

I've never done this before, so I'm wondering:

Do I need to completely clean out the old grout first?

What tool is best to use so as not to damage the tiles?

And are there any products or tips to make the tiles look like new after cleaning?

Leak, deadlines, a lot of work... In such cases, it is better not to spread yourself too thin, but to immediately call a team that does plumbing, tiles, and waterproofing. It's faster, less stressful, and the result is ready right away without unnecessary fuss.

White matte tiles with white grout are beautiful, but they need regular maintenance. We have the same story with the shower, and the hardest thing is to keep the grout snow-white. Just wiping the tiles is not enough, and we order Grout coloring a couple of times a year. It's like refreshing the color, and the grout looks like it was just laid. First, steam cleaning or special products, then apply the color. It's also useful to quickly go over the tiles with a glass cleaner after each shower and not wait for the plaque to accumulate.
