In the bedrooms I would suggest a simple lampshade, to complement the colours already in the room. You can buy a kit to make your own, perhaps using the same material as the curtains. I favour modern light fittings that contrast, but equally sit comfortably, against the traditional ceiling rose. The choice is solely limited by budget. If funds allow, perhaps look at Foscarini and LZF offerings. Alternatively, BHS, Dwell and B&Q would be good alternative sources.

My understanding is that we had a penetrating damp problem in that area of the wall prior to the renovation - when we removed the tongue and groove as part of the renovation the wall just fell away right back to the brick. Presumably the external brick work in that area had failed pointing and as a result the wall became saturated. But this was hidden under tongue and groove for 20 years. That area (we're talking about approx 2.5m x 1.5m) had cement hard coat applied owing to it being stripped back to brick then top coat plaster. The other areas just had a plaster top coat applied to whatever was already there. So that area has more to contend with for sure when it comes to drying out - we have an area with potentially saturated bricks, then hard coat, then top coat. The condensation in the room is a secondary problem that is adding to the issues but not the cause of the problem. In that the condensation in the room is going to the problem area of the wall because it's cold. And as such the wall might be trying to dry out now we've had the pointing fixed, but the condensation is keeping it in a constant state of damp. Hence why the damp specialist said to manage the condensation and it will eventually dry out. I'm just wondering after being done for 8 months, and 2 months of managing the internal condensation environment, that we should call the job as well and truly jiggered and start again.

I don't think it will look mad, but it will look very fashionable, and for me that is the issue. Paint is easy to change, but coloured plaster is expensive. Five years ago nobody would entertain deep green, everything was cool grey. The pink and green colour combination won't last, it never does. I think you have to really be confidant in your choice to make such a commitment. If you really love it, then fantastic.

I’ve got tadelakt walls and a concrete basin. i can’t recommend other finishes but you need to be wary of staining both and just use water for cleaning the tadelakt and a PH neutral cleaner for the concrete. I was also advised to wipe the walls down after showering which is a faff. I dont know whether it was just the guys i used but they said i couldn’t test colours which was a worry working off a colour chart! The first coat that went on was a clean peach (meant to be a dirty pink), I was adamant the colour was wrong and it transpired there was a colour code mix up at the supplier, thankfully, otherwise I’d have picked up the cost to correct. I think the counters are just made in moulds and then they’re cured for x period, obviously check the sealing too. I would just be aware of how heavy they are, our basin is only 60cm wide and weighed an absolute ton and is fixed to a solid wall. Ours arrived with a chip on arrival due to the courier mishandling but thankfully the company made a replacement asap. When the tadelakt was done they warned me if there were any issues then it cant be touched up, the whole wall needs to be redone. Very recently I discovered I must have a roof leak as the tadelakt is starting to stain with mould in a couple of places...(I’m currently in denial and thankfully my husband hasn’t questioned my next steps yet!). The tadelakt also needs periodical resealing which is labour intensive and only works if you have more than one bathroom. I really love the texture and look but wouldn‘t do it again tbh
