Blimey that island is really large - does it need to be so big for storage reasons? I only say that as you will not really be able to use the middle of it practically so that is wasted space which could free up floor to give you more room around your table?

Thanks for your reply - I should have said please ignore the plan. Just shared this for dimensions. That’s what the architect drew in. I definitely don’t need such a wide island!

Do you need to decide now? We had similar dilemma but didn’t make a final choice until we moved the table back in. You have room to play with. We just ensure our sockets etc. worked for either option. It depends where your island seating is going to be I would say. We put ours opposite way to the island to break up the flow.

Can you indicate the style of the kitchen you are planning? Different island configurations can better (or worse) suit different styles, so that info would help.

Are you retaining specific dining furniture? If so, any pics?

Yikes, the dining chairs on the floor plan need much more clearance!

I personally prefer a separate dining table. It gives a lot more flexibility. i vote for a (much) narrower island parallel to the wall with the sink and cook top. If you have island seating, another advantage is that the people sitting at the island get a view outside.

We are looking for a modern, handless kitchen, likely in a charcoal tone with a complimentary colour on the island drawers / cupboards. White with design counter tops etc and matching splash backs. Bronze / light gold taps and potentially details eg in the gaps between cupboards (not sure the technical name).

This as a rough example

1200 deep island with 1100mm on the working side and at least 1200 on the stool side before a dining table that with chairs will measure approx 1750mm wide. Then a gap of at least 650 before the back of a sofa

Prioritise the table and space round it. I'd not bother with island seating. In my house it's just decoration as everyone prefers a more comfortable chair at the table.
