I think you need to keep it the same as the new area you’ve had.

@Daisy England Thanks. I meant to say, I'm adding brass handles to these newly painted cupboards and so I thought a coordinating brass splashback to replace one section of the older red tiles might be nice. Does that change your POV?

If it were me l’d stick with my original post. l think a splashback is more common behind a hob and you don’t have one in that area. To me it would just look strange having something different on another wall. It blends better keeping it all the same. Others may think different.

Just carry on with the lovely new tiles you have. As Daisy says you can have a different splashback behind a cooker, but it would be a bit weird otherwise. I’ve never seen anyone do what you suggest. Having the same tiles will be cohesive and really bring the room together.

I know what you mean about keeping it cohesive. It just feels like there might be too many ivory tiles, and it becomes all you see when you walk into the space. It might be harder to see just looking at photos online.

That's my predicament.

Apologies to intrude on this discussion, but looking at your photos, is your gas top range cooker safe/compliant to have under a window, I have searched on line to see the minimum distance for a gas hob from a window and it varies from 0 to 500mm. Has any gas safe engineers commented? ie when your boiler has been serviced or even when the range was installed.

Jane I think the ivory tiles calm everything down as there is a lot going on, but not in a sterile way. I don’t think you’ll regret it if you carry the tiles right round.

Definitely keep going with the cream they are beautiful….

A splashback that tied in with the fridge, together with a feature chopping board, plus, possibly a knife rack or block might be an interesting and practical solution.

Have you thought of a glass splashback. The colour can be matched to your units. We did that in our kitchen extension. It’s so easy to keep clean.

Here are a couple of pictures of the glass splashback. The best option is seamless. This was a replacement for a previous glass splashback which had separate sections up to the cooker hood on each side and a one piece behind the cooker. It was only slightly more expensive to have one piece. It took about three weeks from measuring to installation.

If it were my kitchen, Id be inclined to use the herringbone tiles all the way around.

I don't  think you need to worry about it looking sterile. To me it has, and will retain, a cosy, country kitchen look, pretty much regardless of the tiles you choose. Perhaps consider finishing and painting the walls before you finalise your decision re the tiles? I feel that might help you to make up your mind.  Best of luck.

Another vote for carrying the cream herringbone all the way round. Anything else would look odd, IMO.

I think I have the same ‘before’ tiles in my kitchen, and I’m counting the days til I can get rid of them!

If you do decide on a glass splashback you could always opt for a clear one because whatever colour you paint your wall behind it will always show through then you have no need to change it in the future.
