Entrance help please

Going to repaint and restyle my entrance. Basket is where kids drop their shoes and school bags so find it practical and lighting I love but just not getting any inspiration. This leads to my open dining kitchen area Would appreciate any help please

I like your wall colour and I agree with The Living House about a mirror above the console table. How about a shoe store instead of the wicker box? Or a storage bench, so they can removed their shoes etc and lift the lid of the bench to access more storage. I wonder if painting the doors, architrave and skirting boards in a similar shade to the walls. It looks a shade of taupe?

Hi Katie,
I would agree with The Living House, a mirror above the console stand, would help illuminate light within that confined space. Additionally, you could also, add table lamps or wall lights for extra effect and/or change your ceiling lighting to a multi bulb design such as this quirky modern design, this Macaron Multi LED bulb or add more than one ceiling light units, to help distribute light.

With regards to the shoes storage, how about one of the options below? A coat and shoe ottoman/bench unit , which with a cushion pad, could be functional as well for the kids to sit on. Or for a more space challenged area, a wall storage unit which could look a little inconspicuous once painted in the same colour as the walls. Would love to have added more idea, but limited to amount of photos to show as examples.
Just a thought, don’t be afraid to be a bit more bold when changing up your space. Bold colours, textures can work just as well within this small area if the right amount of lighting is placed. For instance, you could change the white internal framed doors for perhaps Crittall doors….Good luck!

Very much like my hall (almost identical except ours is 1922 and thus the detail is a tad more Edwardian in influence) ! I've added a wall light on the wall going up the stairs and matching pendants from Fritz Fryer and added a plain paper from Zoffany (called 'silk plain') . Thus the basic scheme is very plain and layered up with artefacts (tables, hall chair, paintings). I've added mirrors to throw light around the place..and am hunting for a distressed antique one to go right at the top of the stairs facing you. It looks as though your stairs go to left and right too... so adding the mirror will I think create more light and ambiance in that rather dark junction. I do agree that it would be lovely to have the stained glass replaced in the door. I added full door curtains with a upholstered pelmet over the door which makes it look much less stark (personally I don't think the little shelf at right adds anything and I'd remove it ;( ). . I chose an embroidered linen from Sanderson for the curtains and used the same fabric for the landing window and hooked that back with a French swan neck holdback and they were hung from a brass reeded Jim Lawrence curtain pole which goes very well with the Fritz Fryer lighting fitments. It's still work in progress as our beautiful carpet had to be removed due to allergy and we're still trying to get the best result on the oak floor in the hall. Be lovely to see what you do given your layout is so similar! :)

Hi. The main problem with the hall is the flooring - which I guess you know from your comments on it. It's sucking the life out of it and making it appear smaller. Regarding storage I would go for a large wardrobe style piece in the corner where the unit it. Height for coats and low shelves for shoes. Beside it keep the plant. You may not notice it but the middle of the space isn't actually used that much so I would lose the bits and pieces around the edge of the room and go for a round table in the centre of the space with a stunning light above (in your homes style). This (once the floor is done) will look stunning, inviting and grand. On here is where I would put my key trey! :)

Hi. So is it a modern coastal look that you're after? In terms of practicality does the room need to cope with people coming in with with surfboards and sand everywhere etc or not?! I don't know if I'd put the console etc where you put the chairs as it seems more practical for keys post etc and maybe the sofa where you put the console or in the middle of the curved wall? Is the curved wall measurement also correct? It seems longer but could be wrong!

Update: we bottled out and went for traditional wooden gates in the end! We're delighted with them (and so is our dog who can see right through!). Took the advice to remove the pillar lights and placed uplighters at the bottom of the pillar and planted roses under them. As always, thank you for all your wonderful comments and help.

Thank you, yes will consider anything to make the entrance nicer. So basically get red of the wicker basket 🧺 and replace with something else. The other cabinet basically has some glassware which I use occasionally. Hat would be ideal would be if I could have something I could both keep shoes in (as all guests remove shoes coming into my house) and also keep my glasswear as a 2 in 1, and have a longer mirror then if I was to if I keep the cabinet what do you think?. However which wall would it be better placed where my wicker currently is in or the unit and it's a very narrow area. The wall colour is like greige it's the same as my living area so it flows but was thinking maybe I could make one of the walls a feature one? I don't know where to start
