For me it’s about contrast and what will be highlighted by the contrast in colour. First 2 pics are what you’re suggesting and whilst the shower doesnt stand out in the 1st, it does more soto me in the 2nd? whilst I like the 3rd bathroom, i only ”see“ the tiled shower. The shower stands out in the 4th pic but i think in a good way and the white is balanced with the window and inside of the bath so it doesnt stand out on its own. i don't think what you suggest will look wrong but think about what you want the feature to be and what’s around it etc You could also look at a marble tile as it will lessen the contrast with the blue?What will go on the floor?

Hi Clare, your house is amazing, all these beautiful period features!! :-) Polished interiors have made some great suggestions, I am just adding a few more ideas to the mix. Apologies in advance if this will just confuse you.... I know you considered Metro tiles and these can look great in bathrooms. The fun with these is that you can play around with different laying patters (herringbone, chevron, brick style) which will all give a unique look and add some interest: Annoyingly builders often recommend large tiles for bathroom, which is frustrating in my opinion. You absolutely do not have to worry about small tiles making the bathroom look even smaller. As a matter of fact, I feel that smaller tiles will suit the style of your home much better. An alternative to consider to metro tiles, would be glazed tiles, such as zellige tiles. You could stick with white, or there are some beautiful neutral shades available, with subtle undertones of greys, greens or pinks, which would all compliment your home beautifully. I have attached a few images. As you can see the play with light is stunning and adds colour, depth and shades while still remaining neutral. The "imperfection" of these tiles go well with a period home, and you won't need to worry too much about cleaning, as they tiles themselves are already "uneven". I would go with patterned tiles for the floor as previously suggested to add interest. Y ou could try something a bit less standard by going with something like these, which you could also use on the shower walls and behind the vanity too instead of the metro or zellige tiles. It would give a very unique and interesting look: Personally, I would avoid wood effect tiles in your bathroom, as it won't be a match to your existing wooden floors anyway. If the above pattern is really not your style though, then I think a concrete style look would great with the marble vanity top and the zellige (glazed tiles): One last idea, which I think you will either love or hate, is considering a neutral terrazo floor with zellige wall tiles: In terms of a mirror, I would bring in some warmth and/or contrast by choosing a rustic brass looking one, an industrial looking black one, or depending on what tiles you go for even an ornate vintage mirror. If you like any of these ideas, I would be more than happy to create a proper moodboard and once we agreed on a style you like, I could provide with you a 3D render of the room, to help you visualise your choices before you committ.
