Colour suggestions.

Hi what colour should I paint this fire surround to go with this feature wall I'm keeping the plain cream marble just not sure if surround goes with paper ,the other three walls are to be natural hessian also what colour for the picture frames they are quite large thankyou.

You can never go wrong with a classic white fire surround. Goes with everything.

I would paint the surround either black or a very dark navy blue black which will pick out the darkest tones in the wallpaper. The problem if you paint it white is it will then make the cream insert look dirty and more yellow. I wouldn’t worry about your picture frames until you have done all the main decorating and see how they look then. Love the marble paper btw

Hello Dub M, Well it also depends on what else colour wise you're choosing for your scheme.. Whether you want bold and dramatic or whether you want something lighter in feel... Using them sparingly with a lot of plain in between or perhaps as boarders can then lend themselves to accent rather than statement... All depends on what you want from them as they're versatile! For pale schemes.. Think of colours such as creams, wheat and pale sun hued creams with hints of yellow.. Light and earthy tones on the cream, wheat, canvas, hessian colours perhaps beige and pale mustards, or pale golden creams and burnt siena with hints of brown,ochres .. For bold consider dark almost purple blues and hints of mauve.. Also Charcoal and greys with black and brown hues... For a warm but dramatic look.. The colours are chalky and have depth... Include wood work and again wall covering is versatile in that it could be half height or whole height.. Put tiles and colours together to see what you like.. Paint onto squares of paper no less than A4 and place them where you might want to use them.. Look throughout the day to see how they react and interact with their space and the changing light.. From one colour you can begin to mix it to blend and become another.. In this way you can see colours interact with each other. Use versions of them by working with lighter and or darker varieties of the chosen colour.. Here's a doodle to show the colours blue and others I'm suggesting so you can see the blue is still quite dominant. I rather like blue and elements of yellows, old golds and creams.. Look at the tiles themselves too for inspiration... : ))

Hi Aqsa! I feel like you could go two ways here if you're keeping in the kitchen units (which seem like a farmhouse style) - you could keep it as a scandi look and style with beige/neutral colours) or if you're looking for a darker / more luxurious feel maybe incorporate a black feature wall to not overpower the rest of the room but to also create that beautiful design. Try painting it the color of the stars from the floor tiles, only 2-3 shades lighter. The floor and walls are the basic/main surfaces of the room, so their color combination is logical as a background. It won't be easy to find the right shade, but the result should justify itself. Take the tiles with you to a store where they tint paints, they will help you choose 2-3 shades of the desired color and then paint them (you can do it on the walls, but it’s better on pieces of drywall - they can be moved to different walls to see how the color behaves in different places and different lighting). The ceiling with colored walls can be made white or also colored - you need to look at the colors. Take a photo of the paintwork and show it here - then the help will be as effective as possible. Painting the walls white is a good option, but IMHO, it will be a different, too simple atmosphere and this can always be done.

It really depends on what else is going on in the rest of the room and your house and what inpact you want it to have - a bold wallpaper makes me think you're looking to make a statement. From the wallpaper alone I'd choose a coral colour (pinky-orange) to pick up on the small coral bits in the wallpaper (it looks more coral than pink to me, but difficult to tell on screen). But if you want something less vibrant, then a mid green would be nice. A pale neutral the colour of the background of the wallpaper would be a safe choice, if you want something to just blend in and not draw attention too much.

I agree with Chloe. White to me is such an obvious choice. We shouldn’t be afraid to pair with unfamiliar colours. I personally would have kept the mahogany, but with the white marble inset, it just would stand out like a sore thumb against the darker muted colours. Sand it down maybe? Hmmm!? Ok I’m thinking blues, greyish blue, picking up from the painting. So….I would be resigned to colour block the whole chimney breast & wooden surround….ouch!!! Sorry Mahogany 😅. As mentioned above, only once the chimney breast & surround is complete, can a decision be made on the picture frame. This could be same colour as chimney breast which can be spray painted to match, or perhaps a gold or brass frame would also work, given the colours picked up from the painting. The gold or brass display ornaments would continue to work well on the mantle and perhaps at the foot of the fireplace? Just a thought😉. These are just colour inspirations …

I kind of agree with the ‘White’ comment at the top but not if it’s a standard pure brilliant white. I actually thought the commenter meant use the white in the wallpaper and get a colour match, if possible.
I tend to be a bit more bold so would have gone with the darker colour in the paper and had a colour matched to that but opted for a shade darker
