The biggest conundrum of our recent move is where to put our 8’ batik. Most houses we’ve lived in—even small apartments!—had a living room wall to accommodate this inherited piece. Not this new house. I’m at a total loss as to where to put this prized possession in such a way that honors its size and beauty. Unfortunately every possible place doesn’t really do it justice so we have to settle.
Context: With this move we decided to purchase all new furniture that matches the vibe and everyone in the family supports. So please excuse the temp living photos as we decide how to decorate.
The contenders for the batik:
- The landing, between the bedrooms. It’s big enough but guests would see only a peek of it.
- The downstairs den. Two walls are big enough but it’s next to the garage and I don’t see us prioritizing decorating this room for ages while the living room and bedrooms are still being contemplated.
- Main bedroom. Would look good but only my husband and I would enjoy it.
Crazy idea from my husband: hang it from the ceiling in the living room. I just don’t see us getting around to finding someone who’d be willing and able to do this without damage to the piece.
